Ya for sure the side mount gets it done but it's not the best for having control. Honestly the NK 180 has been such a great motor! I seriously love it. I'm using a 50ah battery and can get through 2 very full days of fishing without even recharging the battery, it's insane how efficient it is.

You wouldn't be disappointed with the PDL 120. I absolutely love mine. Thought about maybe looking to change those season but after looking I came to the same conclusion that this kayak is probably the best kayak on the market right now for my needs.

Hey! Thank you! I really love the setup also! Has worked so well for me. The device is called a "Cam Cleat". Just make sure you get one like I did with a bar or piece of plastic on top to stop the rope from just lifting out. If the rope could lift out each time it would be something annoying to deal with on the water all the time! If you have any more questions I'm more than happy to help!

Hey! I've had it on the water real quick to make sure everything works and it didn't track too bad! But it left a little to be desired for sure but I was in a fast current river and it was very windy. I also ordered a rudder for an autopilot I'm going to use, it's much wider than the PDL rudder so it should fix any little issue in handling! I'll be making a short about that when it gets here also!

Hey, thanks for checking the video. I honestly love my NK180, I recently just switched to the NK180Pro, and now Newport changed to selling the NK180Pro, and it's amazing. I'm using a 50ah battery and it's impossible to kill in a day of fishing, yesterday I was on the water from 7am until 8pm and still had 55% battery left and I used it all day. Gets my PDL moving 8km/h so 5mph at 100% throttle, but I cruise on 80% and get 4mph. The motor is easy to install, simple to use and a real game changer for having the ability to effortlessly shoot across the lake to check out new spots I never could have gotten to without a motor. Yes, I have used it like this, and it was alright, definitely a little better with less offset, but I think with your larger rudder, it will track fine. I'm also switching to the larger MK/autopilot rudder this season with my navarre plate but will probably cut my rudder a slight amount to clear the motor when turning fully, even cut I think I will see the benefits of a larger rudder. @YAKING WITH DREW Only thing I'm thinking about now is if the added size of the boonedox rudder will make it touch the motor. If you check the short I posted about the clearance, I'm not sure if the rudder was like 2" bigger if it would touch or not. The boonedox is rather large

I used a cheap Ram version from Amazon. It's a Ram B 111U knock off. Here's the link if it helps you. I had to cut it off a bit so the base wasn't hanging out passed the throttle so it's clean looking but you don't technically need to cut it. The kayak isn't wide enough for me to want to use foot controls. I've been having no issues with the rudder steering me. I predominantly use the motor to go from spot to spot

Hey! So the kayak steers with my rudder control. The NK 180 is literally just for thrust. Works great! Could put it in the middle also, it would replace the rudder and I could attach my rudder cables to turn the motor like I do my rudder but I prefer having it setup like this. This way I can go with a motor or without and it's easy. If I replaced my rudder I'd need to use the motor everytime

I'm super sorry that I'm only seeing this comment now. I did not. My battery will only just fit up front, so I prefer to just keep it in the back. I purchased a black pak pro for this season so I'll be putting my battery inside my crate this season. I'll be doing a full A to Z rigging and uploading it as soon as it gets here!

Hey! Newport vessels has a small hole and pin that you put in place to lock the motor from being able to turn! If I ever want it to turn I just attach turn cables and remove the pin.

I did actually, the handle was a little warped and not lining up properly. I had to put one side in a little and then kind of torque it a bit to get the other one, then I left them both loose for a night before tightening it so it wouldn't break anything. I won't buy them for my next kayak as I really barely even used them

Hey, sorry I'm not following why the rudder would hit the motor if I bottom out? Both will just lift as they have done many times before. Old Town and Newport Vessels makes their products tough

I thought that u might have considered the scenario where your motor is on and u make a hard left turn, and say something hits the rudder first to lift it before the motor is also lifted.

The rudder would just go under the motor and lift it. Nothing would happen other than that. I can't see anything getting broken if that happened

Yes I did. I also used a good solid backing plate and big washers because it's load bearing more than a small accessory
