Whangamomona is a little town in eastern Taranaki, along the Forgotten Highway. This small township was once a major trade route for the local farm community that would cart their goods along the bridle track from Aotuhia. Since those days the track has fallen into disrepair but still stands as and awesome 4X4 adventure. With side tracks dotted along the main line everyone can thoroughly enjoy this little trail.

Nice shots. Keen beans coming south without snorkels and surviving! Next time try booking up with some local clubs to access even more remote spots look forward to the next trip.

Hi Jono, Great to see some content back up on your page. I discovered your channel whilst in hospital last year with appendicitis, and between yours and overland NZ has definitely been the motivation for me to work towards getting a 4wd and doing some exploring around nz. Still not quite there yet but whilst i'm getting the funds together (and the clearance from the missus) I look forward to each video to keep me motivated! Chur!

Awesome to hear Sam! It's wicked to hear that my content can drive so many New Zealanders to get out and explore this amazing backyard. I hope you have a rapid recovery and most definitely hope you get the clearance. The overland lifestyle is an addictive one but also extremely rewarding one. There is still a few more North Island videos to come to stay tuned for more mate! Thanks for the comment and hope to see you out there!

Nice one Jono! This is my stomping ground not far from where i live. I fang through there on our mx bikes often. Takes about 20 mins to 1/2 hour on them. It changes all the time and is massively different coming out of every winter. Love it out there!

Wicked mate, its a great spot to be local too. Must be a bit of fun and a bit of a challenge after winter though
@baron30001
@baron30001 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah i don’t bother with anything other than my mx bike until after the road trust do their post winter maintenance/repairs. There is a donation box at the pub to help towards their cost. The local council dont want to know about the maintenance of it so its left up to the locals. One thing thats is worth mentioning too is that the road is not officially closed over winter as its a public paper road bout the whanga road trust doesn’t encourage its use by 4wd’s due to the extra damage they do in the wet conditions. If anybody gets stuck and needs help over this time none of the locals are likely to give them a hand.

Hey Jono, only discovered your page a few weeks ago. I don't own a 4WD, have never been 4WDriving, but I have actually really enjoyed watching your videos to my surprise!!! :D I love travelling NZ, but obviously have never been off road, it been great to see what it is like. I'm taking a Skippers Canyon day trip with Nomad Safaris in a few weeks (when I come over from Aussie) which I have heard is epic. Cheers!

Would you happen to know who did build the bridges? And yes, North Island names are a bit more of a mouth full than south. Didn't think i would have to research how to say things but least i know for next time now.
