*** Disclaimer: I am not a doctor nor am I a "practicing" physician. Just an herbalist doing what comes naturally for my family. If you choose to make this tincture you are doing it of your own free will. You are a adult that can make their own choices.
Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each first to my backyard to harvest some chickweed (Stellaria media) and then we will head over to The Shed Of Many Names to make the tincture. Have been waiting to finally be able to make this amazing wild medicinal chickweed tincture.
So many of the wild spring greens are so misunderstood by most people. Our Ancestors knew of the amazing benefits of this plant and always looked forward to spring to be able to harvest it. Today we are going to use some for making tincture. It can also be tinctured in apple cider vinegar for those who can't have alcohol.
So now let's take time to talk about some of the medicinal benefits while leaving some information out so that you will be motivated to find out more information to find out if this plant is right for your usage. It acts as a demulcent and expectorant, helping to clear mucous and ease congestion in the lungs. Also high in many nutrients, including vitamin C and antioxidants, Chickweed helps to relieve inflammation in the nose, sinuses and respiratory tract whilst helping to eliminate the underlying cause of infection. Chickweed also balances the beneficial bacteria in the gut, providing the optimum environment for healthy digestion.
With anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antifungal properties, infusions of Chickweed can be used to treat a number of skin complaints including; boils, sores, rashes, wounds, eczema and psoriasis. Native Americans have used it for extensively for the treatment of respiratory disorders, colds, coughs, flu, sore throats and as an effective wound healer.
Hope this video encourages you to go and harvest your own chickweed to put back for use to heal yourself from spring allergies. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comment section below I will answer them as soon as possible. Everyone take care and have a blessed day.
Blessings,
Teresa

Just watched the oil method for salves. Will do this also. Please show a good close up for identification. Here in Florida weeds tend to be smaller due to poor sandy soil, so I would like to be able to compare it. I brought in a sample and tried to match it to what you showed on the video. Close and I think I have it. Thanks for all your wonderful, educational videos. I think the answer to food survival is knowing what to eat in the "wilds" of your surroundings.

Although I have come across chickweed in other places, I have never seen it here. I’m disappointed about that. But I do have plenty of dandelion, mullein, narrow leaf plantain, common mallow, and Canada thistle.
