I am a 70-year-old amateur tap dancer and I love listening to your flugelhorn jazz improvs. If I find one about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes which is suited to tap, I will try a tap improv to your music and send you the video. (Just for fun, not for profit).

The original encounter of two instruments 🎸🎺 mastered by each of their players which results in a lovely melodious track 🎼🎵🎶. Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 and thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻!!!

Very nicely done Oli. The added flugelhorn add ons then Jack's playing was sweet. What a treat to hear this and you really did a wonderful job putting this together. So many things going on but could hear every part easily. Wonderful job Oli 👏🏻👏🏻🎺🎸

Well, I think the reason he made this is because there were a few ideas in some of the other videos about the track (his "Solo Challenge Time! video has a couple, if you're curious) that didn't make it into the final track. So he put them here, along with a few other little improvised bits here and there. A phenomenal video overall, I'd say.

The thing I liked most about this track was that gliss in the last chorus (from B flat to E flat above the staff i think? it happens at approx. 3:36). It was such a cool touch and I instantly thought about that recurring gliss lick in Butterfly. Absolutely phenomenal.

yeah it was really cool that he pulled the gliss lick from butterfly towards the end, during the last chorus

Really love your stuff, hate that the first comment I leave is a critique. Stan is one of my favorite rap songs and doing a full improv session over the track was kind of a let down. I would love to hear more return to the licks in Stan, or a pre-written piece that solos between melodies or even includes the lyrics. I cant be the only one who feels let down listening to improve played over classic tracks, in the future you may want to improve over lesser known songs. Something you may want to think about, keep up the awesome music!

What is your biggest tip for beginning improv on trumpet?
@user-jw9kg5rt4d
@user-jw9kg5rt4d 6 ай бұрын
I like to think of improv as just predicting what comes next. Everyone builds their own assumptions over the years through listening to music and have their own prediction what comes next, hence their own improv style. I would say start with taking half a melody and finishing it yourself with whatever comes to mind.

I really enjoy this, maybe you can enhance your "backing" production, it sounds very looped and generic.
