Oliver Pyle - Our Landscape

Күн бұрын

This video is a short introduction to my Patreon account, which you can find here at patreon.com/oliverpyle
1) As a Patron of Oliver Pyle Fine Art, you will be helping me to increase the quality and regularity of my KZfaq content by allowing me to commit more time to these productions, particularly with my plans to bring you more location work.
2) A number of my forthcoming KZfaq tutorials - especially those featuring painting on location - will be exclusive and only available through the Pateron membership.
3) You will receive my Landscape Painting Checklist - a detailed prompt of the questions and considerations that you can work through before starting a new painting. Colour, tone, composition - are you asking the right questions?
4) Every two months, I will produce a stage-by-stage breakdown of the inspiration, thinking, design and techniques that I have used to create one of my gallery paintings. Includes reference image and colour/equipment notes and is only available on Patreon.
5) 10% off all online store items
6) After a 12 month subscription, you will receive a Fine Art giclée print of one of my paintings (value £85) - your choice from 4 different options.

I am learning a lot from your training. You are the best instructor I’ve ever seen. I’ve taken classes before, paid a lot of money, only to be thrown into the deep end without any explanation or guidance. You help us understand the thought process. Coming from being a sail instructor and especially helping women, it is so important to us to understand that thought process. I don’t want to blindly mimic the artist, I want to understand so I can make decisions intelligently. Thanks much. USA student.

I'm delighted you're pursuing this Ollie, your watercolour painting's are absolutely exceptional. The one with the arch and the wildflowers in the foreground, stunning. You've worked very hard to make that quality of artwork and you have the communication and teaching skills to make this a huge success. You've been very generous with your videos on KZfaq to someone starting out. The incentives you are offering make it extremely worthwhile. Best of luck with it!

Thanks Damien - i really appreciate the comment. Many believe that painting the landscape in watercolour is 50/50 talent/work, where the reality is more like 5/95!......thank you for recognising that!

I just saw a lot of your paintings. I love your paintings. I lost my right hand in a lumber mill so I had to start using my left hand. Took me almost 2 years to make my hand work. My sewing and everything I did before left. I started watercolor and actually do it. I love watching others painting its lovely. Thank you so much for sharing. Judy

I’m so impressed by your skill at tutoring and I’m very grateful to you for your KZfaq videos. As I now live in the mid west of Western Australia, the native colours are so vibrant and vivid that they almost look photoshopped!!!! Yes, I wish you could visit and experience the exquisite coastal and river gorges so this is an invitation!!!!! Please come visit Kalbarri, Western Australia. PLEASE know that our tourist town of 1500 residents will welcome you with open arms. WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR TALENT AND EXPERTISE because KZfaq is not enough. Also, you can be assured of a veritable stream of inspiration. Keep safe and well

Good. I like your work very much, Olly and I hope this really takes off- as I'm sure it will. The folk who really value their painting must also value someone not dumbing down but being sincerely helpful. Oh and I like how you insist on proper looking outdoors- I'm sure most people don't engage very deeply with the landscape: after all it's there and we naturally take it for granted. And that's why painting should be mandatory in schools. (As well as Latin of course. I don't insist on Greek as it IS very messy and challenging. I am a realist.)

Landscape photography is a good background to have - the understanding of 'seeing the picture' is often overlooked in preference for learning technicalities. It shouldn't be!

This is such good news and exactly at the right time for me. I have started to paint more paintings of my own in watercolour and it's a completely different thing to following a tutorial/copying another artists painting (though that is very helpful too to get started and get an idea how things can be done).
@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442
@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely right Lisa. I hear from so many artists that are capable at copying other artist's work, but completely unable to paint their own landscapes - the tutorial diet is responsible for this, even though there are some benefits to it initially. Knowing when and how to leave the comfort of the tutorial safety net is the key.

@@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442 For me tutorials were a wonderful way to get back into making art. And if you are not determined to become an artist in your own right it can be a nice hobby to just follow tutorials. But if you are dedicated to create paintings of your own it's just not enough to be able to copy someone else. Your videos have helped me a lot already but this new patreon account of yours will hopefully help me even more. I know that you love to paint outdoors and that its very beneficial, but I hope you'll also make content about using photographs because with a small child and a dayjob I just don't always find the time to go to a nice place somewhere and paint outdoors. I often paint while he sleeps for an hour during the day or in the evening when it's already dark outside. 🙂

Hello, Oliver! I recently had the pleasure of exploring your Fine Art website and perused Every. Single. One. of your fantastic paintings! While they were all really lovely and a few stood out as quite exceptional in my view, there was 'The One' that stole the show for me; 'The Summer Menu'. I could picture myself sitting there, feeling the brilliant sun beating down (but a cool breeze, hence my long sleeves), sipping a refreshing drink while anticipating a tasty lunch and intriguing conversation. Love the premise, the colors and the energy this artwork conveys. I also noticed you posted the watercolor paper you used for each painting (except for 'A New Day Corfe Castle' and 'Morning Mist on Corfe Common' - not posted) and I appreciate that information. I also appreciated the opportunity to 'like' your paintings and to discover the most popular ones. Great website and very user friendly! Anyway, I think you're a fantastic artist! Patreon isn't an option for me at the moment, but I will continue to enjoy your very informative and enjoyable KZfaq vids. thank you for sharing your artistic skills with us noobs lol! Take care.

I joined your Patreon account today and so look forward to learning so much from you. I'm very inspired by your paintings and teaching. I love the idea of getting the "essence" and feeling of the landscape into a painting by simplifying it. I'm such a detail-oriented person that it's tough to do! I live in the U.S. - Oregon, so there is no shortage of beautiful scenery in the Pacific NW. I started watercolor painting 2 years ago at 68 to keep me sane during the pandemic isolation and not seeing my grandkids. I didn't think I would attempt landscapes until I found your channel. So thank you for sharing your talents and I wish you all the best with Patreon.

I am a very beginner and am' wondering if you will have downloadable sketches of some of the demonstrations so we can paint along. Thanks Debra. There will be plenty of content to help, but I'm not a big fan of paint-along demonstrations. They don't encourage an instinctive and creative approach to painting (which is so important.) I prefer to teach skills and techniques that can be used to help your individuality as a painter progress.

Hi Christina, and thank you. The two-monthly will be a written and illustrated paper, not video. It enables me to include more thorough teaching than is possible on video. I will still be making YT videos, but I am planning that every 1 in 4 will be exclusive to Patreon. I will be adding a number of other benefits through the membership on an ongoing basis as time progresses (included in the £9)......it's how I operate, I always tend to give away more than others say I should!

Hi Susan. I don't have a formal feedback/interaction benefit on Patreon as it's simply not possible to offer this without being overrun, compromising my painting and teaching time. That said, I've always made a point of responding when people get in touch on an informal basis. My members only forum (free) at www.oliverpyle.com is a good place to get in touch with questions, and of course I'll pick up any comments and messages through Patreon too.

There will be both. YT will continue to host tutorials, but a deeper level of teaching will be available through Patreon - it will be a combination of written articles and videos. The tutorials will not be 'paint along' in style, as many are on Patreon, but will teach specific skills and techniques that individuals can use and develop - I find it a more successful way of learning. They will be very similar in style format to my YT but with a deeper look into how to understand and paint the landscape in watercolour.
