I think she absolutely killed this mini-concert. I think it’s one of her best performances, hands down. I also loved what you said about women needing more presence in the music industry. It means a lot, as a girl, coming from a man in the industry. And it’s so true. I think the girls owned this year in regards to the music industry :)

This is best she ever sounded IMO. She improved in not being nervous & commanding the stage. She is in her bag here.

For me what is most interesting is she is clearly playing with the pace and arrangement of the songs in her live performances. I have seen multiple sets with most of these songs and none of them are the same. I love that experimentation and not making the album versions so precious. Sometimes it results in tempos that feel a little fast or vocals that aren’t always super perfect but that is also fine to me because live music should really have a feeling that recorded/mastered music can’t replicate.

I love how Olivia crushed the piano towards the end of Vampire song. ❤

In the context of a young artist coming to grips with new and overwhelming fame, Making the Bed is freaking heart-wrenching. “Another thing I ruined that I used to do for fun”…I mean I literally heard Julien Baker say she felt like this after touring solo for her debut album and falling into destructive behavior from the loneliness of it all. She even went back to college because she was considering leaving music professionally so it could be fun again like when it felt more like a hobby. She had an amazing quote I don’t 100% remember about how we think what we love should become our job but then it being a job destroys our love for it. She was far more eloquent and had bigger words but that was the gist. This song always reminds me of that interview. Ps Julien is also amazing and so happy she didn’t leave and is now part of an amazing trio.

I'm always amazed by olivia's songwriting and the way vampire hits even harder, the acoustic is just heartshattering

Actually I wouldn't assume that vocal harmony is a live tweak she's been doing. I think its a tweak specifically for this performance. I don't know how much she varies her stage performances, but I've noticed her live on video stuff is different almost every time. She'll change the band role, background singer parts, and arrangement for every major broadcast venue.

Thats one thing people love about her, that every performance isn't the same. She does try to change it and perform it differently. Makes it more fun to watch the different performances knowing it won't be 100% the same.

As someone who recently went on a “Vampire performances” rampage I can tell you, the arrangement it’s different almost every time, she really is trying things out during her live performances and it’s really cool!

“I like the fact that there’s no goddamn men around” - I love and agree with this sentiment more than anything 😂❤ particularly given her age-to surround herself with strong talented women is so wise

I really do enjoy listening to you react to Olivia’s music and performances. You are really insightful with her work and the “I like that there’s no Godamn men around” was a great statement and I couldn’t agree more. My nephew hates everything about Olivia’s music simply because she’s a woman! I don’t understand thinking like that. You can tell you’re a true fan and I respect that.

Her voice is so beautiful, I can’t wait to see her on tour in a few months. To think there are people out there who say she can’t sing lol
