Qatar's Nasser Al-Attiya defeats the Russian Federation's Valeriy Shomin in a shootout to win the bronze medal at the Royal Artillery Barracks at the London 2012 Olympic Games (24 July 2012).
From just five shooting events at the inaugural 1896 Olympic Games to today there are 15 events in the Olympic programme, divided into three different groups: rifle, pistol and shotgun. The rifle and pistol competitions are held on shooting ranges, where marksmen aim at targets at distances of 10, 25 and 50 metres. In the shotgun event, competitors shoot at clay targets propelled at a series of different directions and angles.

@@andrewl2787 not the case here it's an individual sport so the results will depend on the participants alone and nobody else can share the burden, additionally he missed which takes away the satisfaction of giving one's best . If he had hit the target and his points were lower than the opponent he could still console himself that he tried his best.

All of the sports at the Olympics are separated as far as I know. For shooting, archery, air pistol, and similar sports, yeah women are definitely on more equal footing with men. But for the more physically demanding sports women will always be at a disadvantage. I guess it's difficult to draw the line between sports that require physical strength (which men will be more successful at) and sports where strength is a non-factor, because to some degree physical strength plays a role in all of these sports. That's my 2 cents anyhow

The only sport that doesn't separate men's and women's is equestrian events, because there is no physical differences that cause advantages and disadvantages in that sport. In shooting however, the guns themselves weigh 6-7 lbs and you have to lift them repeatedly over the course of the round, and since men and women have different muscle capabilities, this can affect them if they competed together. Also, women's skeet shoots 75+ targets while men have to shoot 125+ targets.
