The Jamaican team set a new world record of 36.84s at the London 2012 Games.
Here we re-live the full race coverage as Jamaica's team of Carter, Frater, Blake and Bolt take the gold medal.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men. =========================================

Yohan Blake is a phenomenal sprinter and a great teammate. His third leg run in the 4x100m relay at the 2012 London Olympics was one of the best I have ever seen. He ran like a beast and gave Usain Bolt a slight lead over the Americans, who had a strong team as well. Blake showed his speed, strength, and determination to help Jamaica win the gold medal and break the world record. He deserves a lot of respect and admiration for his performance. This is one of the races that truly shows how great Bolt was. Ryan Bailey who he ran against in that last leg has a personal best of 9.88 which in many World Champion/Olympic years would net him a medal, but he wasn't close to Bolts speed despite being in the top 0.01% of his sport. This race shows how much faster Bolt is than not just any 100m professional sprinter, but to a 100m FINALIST Olympic caliber sprinter.

I don't agree with you fully here. Every athelete play the sport to break the record(automatically means winning) whether they accept it or not. Record is what that get recognition, fame. Records is what motivate athletes to give their best, it is what make lengeds out of winners. Also think about it if it was not about records then what's the point of WR, OR etc. People have watched this video because it is about breaking the record. In 2016 Rio Olympics, Bolt didn't break any record but the expectations were always there.

Nick DeVita I don't know if it was so much that Bolt was pulling away as he had the baton first and and started his sprinting phases earlier. As you know there is not much you can do until you get the baton and if you start pushing to early the person passing it to you can't catch up. Baily obviously got beat but Baily held his own.. That Jamaican team is a Beast!!!

I love the 4x1 relay, this is just beautiful. But this is some of the best commentary I’ve ever heard. it’s great how he captures what’s happening and catches that relay to the third leg and turning it up as the tides were turning. Chills, the whole thing, amazing

Hold on hold on, if you pay attention to the time that Bolt got the baton you'll see that it's about 28.4 seconds, he finished at 36.84, so...that means bolt ran his leg in like 8 seconds, that insane

Each leg avg 9.2 secs. Forget about a running start! These speeds are incredible. Evolution at it's finest before our eyes.

@@deonmorris5934 err, that's not really 'evolution'. Yea it's evolution that we got to this point but these people are fast because they train and push their body's to the limit. We're not really made to sprint

I'm not sure, perhaps it could be angular acceleration. There's a difference between running on the straight line and curved line. The velocity changes in angular motion, because the displacement changes. This is my opinion, I could be wrong
