It migjt not have been profitable for 50-60 years but once Cameron and others movies/show dropped, Olympic would be a gold mine

If they weren’t scrapped in the Great Depression (or WW2 if they would’ve lived that long, they would’ve been scraped for the scrap drive) people would be running for souvenirs like dogs running for treats! Thanks for sharing

Looks like Olympic and Mauritania did the job better than Titanic and Lusitania ship ever did!

Fascinating! Thank you sharing these items. I've never seen any of them before. Thanks also for showing them up so close so the viewer can really see them. I'm glad that parts of these truly great ships have been saved and repurposed. Something I'm particularly fond of is the writing tables that used to be on ocean liners. The tables had vertical caddies or racks that held stationery and envelopes. Maybe the older ones had built in inkwells. As someone who still writes pen-and-paper letters, one of those table would be something not just enjoyable but practical to have. Interesting to hear the commentary from the narrator of the Mauretania newsreel. It can only be inferred but it sounded like the narrator was aware of how the old liners might be needed for wartime service again though he didn't directly say so. I don't remember for certain but I read something about Winston Churchill wanting to keep the Berengaria and maybe also the Olympic from being scrapped. He seems to have known another war was coming and that the ships would be of great value. Maybe another viewer has more information and can share it. I've heard about and have seen an example of the pens made from the melted glass and brass of the bridge of the Seawise University. They were made by the Parker company and I think are fountain pens. I imagine those pens are pretty hefty from the weight of that glass and metal!

With the rise of Hitler, Churchill believed another war was inevitable, and Britain was unprepared for what was ahead.

@@homeworld1765 What do you think what Churchill thought about the rise of USSR ? The answer is simple is due to stupidism he did not think about it at all although the term Red Monkeis was invented by Churchill no later 1918 or at least it is aasigned to him. If there was not Scientific Communism (Scientific InterNAZIonalism - InterNAZIsm) there would not be NAZIonalism - NAZIsm. And stupid Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany invaded Poland and did not declare war on USSR after USSR invaded for example Finland and Poland. And stupid aggressors Britain, France, USA ruined Europe. But Europe could recover after WW2 is due to Germany managed to save half of Europe from Reds. But now Europe id dead due to Simple InterNAZIonalism - InterNAZIsm. Stupidism won. Forget about Europe.

There was no Titanic nostalgia in those days, she likely wouldn’t have made much money at all until after they found Titanic. No one would have wanted to maintain an old ship, she was more valuable to keep the people who dismantled her working at the time.

Preserving a huge ship like that would need lots of money.

I still have the plate with the OSNC logo from her A la Carte Restaurant. It's hard to find Olympic items, it's quite an expensive affair.
