I would love to walk that beach and try to imagine what it was like that morning of June 6th, 1944. The sounds would have been loud as hell and the smell of battle was something those guys never forgot. Being a veteran myself, i have nothing but the utmost respect for every single guy that set foot on that beach that horrible morning.

I've been there, as well as the other D-Day beaches, my Dad landed on 'Gold' beach on that fateful morning. Fortunately he survived, but a lot of his comrades didn't. When you go into the Omaha beach cemetery & see all those white crosses, almost 10,000 , it brings home the futility of war. RIP to all those who perished on that morning & thereafter.

I’ve visited Omaha beach in vacation, and it is indeed as impressing as you might think... When you visit it’s not just theory of the knowledge, but you can wander around Normandy to see its history

I’ve been to those spots myself and in the video the beaches may look small but those men had to cross a very large amount of open ground all respect the the veterans who fought at Omaha.

The defending MG42 operators were instructed not to open fire until the invaders hips were at the same height as the water level. Judging from the original footage it looks like either theres been a lot of erosion to the beach since then or it was very low tide when they landed.

Opening shot above east end is WN 60. Tad hard to find driving but you can walk up to it from the beach. This is the only area left where pebbles comprise the area up from the water. In 1944 the entire beach was like that.
