While that is a hilarious point, one of the beauties of this watch, especially compared Rolex's GMT-Master II, is that it still has the 600M WR and 120 click bezel of the standard PO600M. So you can use this exactly as you'd use a PO600M dove watch, only with added 24h GMT capabilities. The Rolex GMT-MII, on the other hand, might be of similar design and construction to the Submariner, but with only 100M WR and a 48 click bezel you cannot use it to replace a Submariner if you also want a dive watch.

While I honestly don't have an issue with thick sports watches (I would never wear this with a suit, so it doesn't need to fit under a shirt cuff) a 17mm case is probably getting a bit too thick even for me. That said, thanks to the domed crystal I can't help but suspect it might actually wear more like a 15-16mm thick watch on wrist, which is plenty enough to get under a jacket cuff. One detail I love about this watch is it's bezel (and not just because the black & white looks amazing). The Rolex GMT-Master II 48 click bezel is great for quickly reading time zones, but I appreciate that the lumed 120 click bezel here still allows this watch to function as the extremely capable dive watch that it is (it's also convenient for the handful of 1/4 hour timezones not covered by a 48 click bezel).

@gpearce11

@@markt1067 I'm 6'6" with 8in wrists, my size isn't the issue. My issue is trying to fit the watch under a dress shirt cuff (made worse by big wrists, because the cuffs are often a little snug). For me personally I've found that anything under 20mm will probably fit under the sleeve of a coat or jacket no worries, but if it's over 15mm (especially if it's particularly slab sided) it won't fit under a shirt cuff at all, which automatically disqualifies it for a suit for me.
@markt1067
@markt1067 Жыл бұрын
Makes sense for you I see that. I guess it doesn’t matter to me as every watch I have ever owned is always out past the cuff of my shirts. As you said, clearly fits under the coat but not the shirt. Even my Rolex sub, yes it would start out under the shirt but with minuets would get stuck on the cuff as soon as I outstretched my arm while at work and would stay like that. Therefore, it really doesn’t matter to me that if won’t fit under the shirt cuff.

I have the original Seamaster GMT 50th Anniversary with the black and white bezel, and while it doesn’t have the Co-Axial movement, it doesn’t have the HE escape valve either. My watch is rated 300 meters/1000 feet, and Omega wisely chose to leave the hideous valve off the version I own. The way I see it, if Rolex and Breitling can make their escape valves flush with the case, Omega could too. To me the valve on the 300 meter watches is just a needless affectation. The newer Planet Ocean GMT is impressive but I think I’ll struggle along with my older version . . .

I have it in the 2 tone on rubber. Visually a very beautiful watch but not without its faults. The lume lasts about 5 mins for starters. The fact that the case screws are designed only for the bracelet. They have the fitted spring bars for the rubber. The spring bars sit close into the case almost like the lugless Halios puck or the short lugged Seiko Street models. Just like the useless Seiko street, the extra short lug to lug distance causes the strap to squeeze the top of the wrist and push the case up causing it to either sit to the left or to the right of your wrist rather than centered as it should. It is bewildering that Cartier would fit case lugs and not use them for the rubber strap which would have solved this issue. You really wonder why such highly paid designers could create such a catastrophe.. oris, blancpain, iwc , ulysse Nardin and the Halios have done it so much better with their strap fitting and design. I am going to buy the bracelet separately and hope that works better. That aside, it is nice. The dial is stunning. The bezel action is superb. The crown action also superb. Nice movement. They could have had it perfect but just fell short by adding silly spring bars when there was no reason to do it.

I’m a firm believer in buying pre-owned, and letting the original owner take the big depreciation hit. Yeah, opening a box with a new watch is an ego boost, but it’s costly. It’s like the day you drive your new BMW off the lot, and the ride home costs you about five grand in depreciation.

@footballcoreano They can be, although Seiko and Grand Seiko tend to do a pretty good job of sticking to their DNA. The GS in question definitely looks like a GS, it just has a black & white bezel that's similar to this one. Considering how many blue & red "Pepsi" bezel watches there are, I don't think we can really complain when two different watches have similar black & white bezels.

Call me having no class but when I see most of these luxury brands, they all look a like and not different from some Casio or Seiko models. @@marvinberwart Yeah probably not a bad investment, but I can think of better ways to invest money. But basically what I find missing the most is more design variant against "common" models. I will only suggest walking into an Omega boutique and handling the watches yourself. Check out the Planet Ocean & Seamaster 300M lines. Put them on, look at the case backs and me be know some of the specs. Then go and try on a Seiko Sport 5 or any of other below 200$ watches whether mechanical or quartz. If you can’t see or feel a difference, then I’d say you’re lucky not to have expensive taste in watches 😄 Keeping in mind that this still falls under midrange luxury watches when talking about Omega & Rolex.

OK, so I’m a Rolex fan but I also have a collection of Speedmaster which I really adore. It’s a way better watch than the Daytona in every way. This GMT is a stunningly beautiful watch but why oh why do Omega keep making their references like this so thick? It completely kills it for me. Face on, gorgous timepiece. Side on….awful, just awful. If Omega could slim down their movements across their entire line then I’d be one of their best customers, but until then, for me, this is one GMT I regrettably will have to say pass. The Aqua Terra range suffers the same thickness problem as do the newer co-axial speedmasters. Such a shame.
