I believe the struggles went back and fourth, with Byzantium winning some wars while the Arabian countries won others, causing territory to shift back and fourth depending on the war. There was a lot of hostility between the two sides, and lot's of people died. Although I'm not entirely sure, I think the point of Blueberry's comment is that the specific timestamp they provided gave them an overall feeling analogous to Byzantium soldiers, deep in Arabian territory, clashing head on with Arabian soldiers. That is to say, the music would fit with such a scene if it were played out in a movie or something. I could be wrong, but that's my interpretation of their comment. If it's actually something else, then I just made a fool out of myself. :P
