@@soyyo4154 I assume you are of course being sarcastic. It was named Mtv and had the words Music Television under it because it was made for Music Videos starting in 1979 and on through the 80's. The first music video to air on it was Video killed the Radio star by the Buggles in 1979 a fitting song topic in the lyrics for a band with a new age Music Video out on Mtv rather than just on Radio airplay.

If memory serves, Palmer was also billed as "best dressed" in the music genre during the mid-late 80's. Seems I remember some voting contest on MTV (back when they used to actually play music videos) and he won by quite a large margin.

Love love love Robert Palmer, RIP way too soon. He was smooth and slick and I loved the little sly glances and looks he would give the camera in his videos, you could tell he was having fun with it all. This video and song were kind of a follow up to a monster hit he had called "Addicted to Love". The video for that one had the pretty girls and sharp suit, I think you'll enjoy that one, too.

I miss Robert Palmer. He was a fantastic musician who put a lot of fun into his work. And he put out one of the best albums of the 1980s with "Riptide" from 1985. (Its the album the song "Addicted to Love" came from.) BTW, that guitar player was a dude in a dress. They even shaved his arms.

I saw Robert Palmer in 1978 at a State College before he went crazy popular on MTV. Really the first real concert I attended. Band was super tight and it was REALLY REALLY LOUD... Possibly the loudest show I ever heard.

Ah, one of the quintissential 80's videos! This is the kind of thing MTV was made for, back when it was ALL music videos ALL the time. It's totally ironic, though - notice how he says "she's anything but typical", and yet all the girls behind him look exactly alike! ("Addicted to Love" was his other really huge hit, also populated by those identical girls.)

"Addicted to Love" I'd read was voted 3rd most popular Music Video of the '80's (And "Simply Irresistible" close). The article didn't say what the top2 were, but must be MJ's "Thriller" and "Beat It or "Billie Jean." On the "anything but typical" line, the girls look -nearly identical, yes, but not in a way one sees anywhere else; plus there's more than looks of course. I was surprised India didn't get that the model wasn't really playing the guitar (look at those nails!...) Glad she liked it a lot.
