When you listen to this music, realize that it’s part of the soundtrack of our generation, music we listened to as teenagers that affected the way we thought of love and relationships with the opposite sex. If you wonder what’s different today, that may partly explain it!

Agree!! I feel bad for the young people who have no clue, and actually try to emulate the current music lyrics giving them no sense of self-worth.

This song is much deeper than that. The woman who wrote it, wrote the words at he age of 14 the night her father died.

Yes, we had a different attitude about love and relationships reflected in the music we listened to. Everything was different and better than what we have today.

As a member of the newer generation, all of my peers are lost. They don’t understand how this attitude of sex and fun over love will affect them in the future. I’m glad to be unlike them.

Another great songstress from the late 50's & early 60's. She started very young & had a very unique voice. She covered different genres including rockabilly, pop & country. Some other hits by her are "Sweet Nothin's", "Break It To Me Gently", "I'm Sorry" & "All Alone Am I". This song "End Of The World" was originally sung by Skeeter Davis in 1962.

I remember living in New Jersey and working for the city of New York. When the world trade center towers were struck by two planes. The smoke from the debris was smoldering for days on end. I would cross the George Washington bridge on that same day it happened 09/11/2001. And this song and version by Brenda Lee was playing on the radio and airwaves everywhere. The disc jockeys made it a point to not forget the loved ones that were lost there. And then they played this song and version. I couldn't hold myself from shaking and crying while all the while seeing the smoke rising in the air as I was crossing the bridge into New Jersey. This is why this song hits me like a ton of bricks. Just remembering that infamous day all over again.

She won a talent contest when she was 5 years old, winning a year's spot on a local radio station. Her dad died in a work related accident when she was 7 and by the time she was 10 she was the main breadwinner in her poor family, by performing at local venues. I think she was about 9 or 10 when she got a recording contract in 1955 and had her 1st charted hit when she was 12. From '58 through the 60's she had the most number 1 charted hits of any other female singer and 4th overall, behind only Elvis, the Beatles and Ray Charles.

It maybe the music, it maybe the lyrics, But mostly it is The reaction to the recorded Emotion, and feeling, In that singing voice. Even cooler than all of that. As I'm sure you're aware at this point, the original version of this song was recorded by Skeeter Davis, Skeeter's version holds the distinction TO THIS DAY of being the only song in music history to be in the top 10 of all four major charts simultaneously, Hot 100, AC, Country, and R&B. What you might NOT know, is Sylvia Dee, the woman who wrote the song, wrote the lyrics when she wa 14 years old, the night her father died. She then put them away, and when she became a songwriter in her adult life, she gave the lyrics to her songwriting partener, Arthur Kent 35 years later, and he wrote the music to it.
