I had the chance to work as a production assistant on a few rocafella projects in the early 2000's and I can say out of all the Roc artists, Omilio was the coolest, always showed me love and greeted me with respect. This is unfortunate, because if anyone deserved millions, it was him.

Yeah. He was trying to get an I'll hook for his song for the dude he paid to make music. Y'all do understand that ROC was started and ran by Jay, bigs and Dame right? They paid these people. Y'all gotta understand that labels give you everything except your lyrics. You literally only gotta write then go in and record. You don't engineer, you don't mix, you don't produce, you don't do background vocals, you don't pay for the videos, you don't buy the beats, you don't do ANYTHING but record and make appearances.

One thing I don't like about business is some people can make a $100 million and won't give the people who helped a little cash just to let them know they appreciate it. I'm not saying give them half but at least give them a taste. The sad part is people think that's the right way to do business.

People got to understand, just because you have talent dont mean you are business savvy. These guys were street dudes trying to get out the hood. They had the talent all they needed was a shot. They didn't know anything about the music business, they just wanted to rap and make music. You live and you learn. I respect this dude for taking the punch and keeping it moving. Sometimes getting burned teaches you a lesson so it doesn't happen again. This is a business, it's not a game.

Him like many other artists didn't understand music business period and the side effects would come back to haunt him. Jayz and Dame dash knew that alot of their artistes didn't have their publishing set up and knew the long term effects of not having it.

Nah. Imagine thinking you won the lottery jackpot once so you can do it again. It's not likely to happen, case in point with this guy. His once in a lifetime opportunity came and paid someone else. He'll forever regret that.

This title is misleading. He's less saying that someone stole from him,more that he didnt have his OWN affairs in order. And Give it to Me was far from his 2nd largest record in his career. And it's stupid to think anyone can make MILLIONS from a single, so he didnt loose that much. He shouldve used to opportunity to do more music. Look at Nate Dogg, he figured it out.

That was one of Jay Z biggest songs of his career. That song was huge back in the early 00’s. This one and hard knock life crossed over. So they really fucked him. They could have waited for his publishing.

Must be the B room studio he was talking about in the back

He wasn't going to get publishing for that anyway. That was a Rick James line from "Give it to me baby." If he got upfront money then he was better off. At any rate, even without his publishing company setup, he should have gotten writing royalties from a PRO (ASCAP, BMI, Etc). That would have been half of the total performance money he would get. Gotta know the business dudes!

+Dominic Bazile you're right about that. Sparks wasn't going to get that much.

Are you sure that line if from Rick James' song?
@tic2datoc478 жыл бұрын
+southern cali changed the lyrics, counts as an interpolation. Same rhythm and context, just changed a few words. Labels do this all the time to avoid certain licenses and make the song more relevant.

yep. For example, The Notorious B.I.G-Hypnotize.

+Dominic Bazile interesting. The two songs sound nothing alike and the lyrics are different to me. But I respect your opinion.
