I have successfully used the Mylar ‘space blankets’ that are used to keep people warm in emergencies, or at the end of marathon races. You can get these with one side gold and the other side silver, there is a lot of material in one blanket.

I absolutely love your videos Sue! Ive learned nearly everything I know about machine embroidery from you! Thankyou so much for all your time and energy, I appreciate it so much! Your videos are so well done, actually they are my favourite! I learn the best from yours! As for the mylar substitutes, I just saw on the internet a Lindee G embroidery lady..in her blog, she says she has been using the silver back of party balloons for years and years and sometimes the party shop stores will give out the damaged balloons for free..now to watch your mylar video! blessings to you Clare from UK!

Thank you for showing this experiment. I wouldn't dare to use some "strange" material. I'm so afraid it could ruin my machine. Now I know what I can use and stay on the safe side. And it was another time thinking outside the box!

yes, I encourage everyone to be very careful. I did lots of research and I have seen people using these items for other products designed by professionals, so I was confident that it would not harm my brother dream machine!

Mylar is the trademark name for film for DuPont. The things you are using maybe vinyl. If you had gift wrap film that would be the same as Mylar.

Sue thank u I’ve been stocking your page I’m a beginner in embroidery and Iove your channel can’t make a decision on hatch or embrillance hatch rate now is on sale so im probably going to get hatch but I love how embrillance is so easy and straight forward and works on Mac in stead of Parallels

Such a fun and informative experiment! I missed the live as I was busy doing another Patchwork Pets block. I've been trying to cut down on toffees but now I have a good reason to keep eating them!! I haven't tried the tea bag wrapper yet but I'm sure it will work. I never eat crisps (Chips) so I wouldn't be able to use them.

Hi, Did you ever tryed rappingpaper ? The kind that one uses to rap present for Christmas or so. It has silver on one site and an Christmas print on the other. Cassy from Belgium
