I see Omnath's color identity as shorthand for its story. Mana shows it newly freed and recuperating from its ages of imprisonment. Rage shows it lashing out against the Eldrazi and anything caught between the clash of these titanic forces. Roil shows us an Omnath who is turning its full elemental force on the Eldrazi with a modicum of control. And Creation adds white, as Ommath and the plane as a whole return to what passes for peace on such an active plane and begin healing. Hopefully if we ever see a WUBRG Omnath its name is something in the vein of Locus of Balance/Perfection/Zendikar.

I think you're spot on and it's interesting how we can see zendikar's process of recovery through Omnath. Whenever their next return to the plane is, Omnath will likely be whole

I would assume that Nahiri lied about the nature of Omnath to Ugin and Sorin, telling them it was a wild elemental with an innate connection to Zendikar's mana leylines that they could use as a bridge or conduit for powering the Eldrazi's prison. It's very clear that, unlike other Kor, she has a much greater understanding of the ancient Kor empire and it's technological abilities, reinforced by her eagerness to use the Lithoform Core in spite of the devastation it can cause. The question becomes how much does she really know and understand about the ancient Kor that subjugated the plane prior to the first coming of the Eldrazi, and does she have any interest in restoring Zendikar to it's "rightful place" below her people's metaphorical boot?

Man, Zendikar Rising could be a 2 part set, and in the 2nd part, Nahiri would face, Nissa+Omnath+The Roil, or something like that

This is great. I always loved Omnath as a card, but I never knew, or even gave much thought to, the story/theories behind it. It's only my daughter's recent interest in Magic that have drawn me more to the stories; she's a deep-lore nut of the first order. Since she's learning the game and we're playing Commander together, Omnath, Locus of Creation has become the commander of my first attempt at a four-colour deck. I like to keep some flavour of the lore in my Commander decks(we play kitchen-table Magic; I couldn't care less about optimization), so this video will be an excellent reference point. On a related note, anybody got any tips for a four-colour mana base? This is my first venture outside two-colour decks. I've been exploring for the past couple weeks, and you're running a great channel, by the way. Count me as a new subscriber.

Awesome video! I have a question, if Omnath is the manifestation of the plane Zendikar, what is the avatar Soul of Zendikar? I really don't know how the plane avatars fit on the MTG lore.

MaRo stated that the "Soul of" cycle of cards was more metaphorical than literal. So its just an elemental that is on theme with Zendikar. Now, Zendikar has a Worldsoul that Nissa often communicates with and is manifested in the elemental Ashaya. While Omnath is the Heart of Zendikar, there isn't reference of it being the Soul

I wish I was a little more creative maybe have the three part triggering system they do now but since they add black include a fourth and final trigger for black maybe removal of some type or giving enemy creature or creatures a negative effect for that turn.

great video and my theory on omnath creation is he was the first elemental/roil to show when the eldrazi original arrived thus why he is one of the most powerful elementals (not sure if ashaya is more powerful) also why he is its heart ( the thing red uses to act first)and was locked up by the kor who was taught to use the hedrons by nahiri after the eldrazi imprisonment

Hopefully with all zendikar has been through Wizards would spare it from Phyrexia. But landfall phyrexians sounds epic!

Wow, this is really great! And very timely considering the story so far. (Minor spoiler ahead, I guess:) I wonder if the voice that talks to Nissa through the lithoform core (in Episode 5 of the Zendikar Rising story) could be Omnath? In any case, looks like it might make an appearance in a future story episode. About imprisoning Omnath: I think you mentioned in a previous video that the roil (may have) started before the appearance of the Eldrazi. If so, maybe the kor did indeed chain Omnath if they considered it an obstacle to their vision of what Zendikar should be. Or maybe Omnath's power was used to build the skyclaves? In any case, this video makes me a lot more excited about the upcoming story episodes. Great job once again and thanks for making these!

Thanks so much! Yes, it is interesting that the roil appeared before the Eldrazi and im thinking the same as you. The kor may have been responsible for it with their lithoform engines. We'll have to see if that theory holds though!

The next Omnath, following our compleated jelly bean should be Locus of None: a colorless variant after he is unphyrexianized. Imagine what it could be. Maybe in MH3 since there are new titans?
