My last pair of On Cloud 5 Waterproof shoes in the Olive colour had a fault and got replaced under warranty with the new metal/navy colour. In this video, I give the On Cloud 5 Men's Waterproof Shoes a try, share my first impressions and review for the purpose of all-day walking and travelling, along with extra thoughts and comparisons from my last pair.

@@raed7769 pretty good tbh I’ve had them for nearly 7 months now and they’re still in tact the only problem is i was doing some shovelling in my grandads garden and it sort of made the bottom all messy not too bad it doesn’t affect the overall performance of the shoe but it was a big mistake wearing them that day

Pretty much it took little parts of the bottom of the shoe off

⁠aah i see was thinking of picking them up so wanted to see how they do in the long term. Thanks for the quick reply, ill be wearing them just for travel in out the house so shouldn’t be an issue.

@@raed7769 trust me they’re worth it just don’t do heavy labour work with them they are by far my favourite running shoes and they are extremely comfy

Size up right for waterproof?

Thanks so much for the upload. So, did you noticed any squeaking or weird noises and how old you like them after having them for a while thanks.

Yep, they squeak the moment there is any moisture - eg even a bit of dew when you cross a patch of grass in the morning will have them squeaking until they dry out. I love the shoes but they didn't last particularly well - 4 months, same fault as the first pair. On replaced them under warranty again. The third pair were also squeaky as soon as they touched a little moisture and lasted 4 months to the day before the same fault arose. On has just replaced that pair under warranty as well. So while it is a pain, On does seem to recognise the fault and is replacing them. I hope they get the issue sorted because besides those two things, they are still my favourite walking shoes!

does on cloud 5 (non waterproof) have this heel split issue ?

Are the non-waterproof ones more comfortable and better to run in?

I haven't tried running in the non-waterproof ones, but they are marginally more comfortable. The main reason being that the waterproof has a seam about 2cm below the top of the shoe in the heel region. That seam is where the waterproof liner ends. It's not a problem if you wear higher socks, but if you wear low-cut socks, that seam is the first place (for me anyway) that the inner starts to wear away and once it does, the stitching starts to rub and become problematic even though the rest of the shoe may still be perfectly fine - or at least that was my experience with these blue ones. It didn't happen with my old green ones, though they were starting to wear in the same place. I've got a black pair of the waterproof ones now and they haven't started to wear there yet. The other reason is breathability. The waterproof does breathe amazingly well for a waterproof shoe, but the non-waterproof ones do still breathe better so cooler feet. I personally have never found heat to really be a problem running in the waterproof ones mind you.

what you think about the on cloud 5 coast?

I haven't had an opportunity to try them out yet, but I do think they look like a brilliant shoe for warm weather travel. From what I understand, they have the same sole, midsole and insole as the On Cloud 5's, which I love, but with a soft, lighter upper. Probably not a shoe I'd personally wear for hiking or that kind of thing where you are on less stable terrain since the shoes have very little support built into them, but the Cloud 5 sole is brilliant for being on your feet all day so I'd expect the Cloud 5 Coast to be great for that also.
