But he also rips in 2015 he got a perfect 10 at the pipe invitational. His edge was local knowledge.

Well bodysurfing is also a great training. High cardio because of powerful leg kicking, getting pounded regularly by white water and it's very relaxing when underwater. It also increases feelings, making it easier to know what's your body position even when you've been flipped a few times by the washing. It gives you confidence. Lifeguards are often pretty good at it...

He wasn't an alternate, he had an official invite this year. I believe he was an alternate in years past, which is where that interview clip came from.

Just a note, from what I understand it's not low oxygen that triggers you breath response. its rising CO2. So you're actually training for CO2 tolerance and, yes, it can be greatly increased!
