This week we speak to Janet Albrechtsen, columnist for The Australian to discuss the 2022 federal election results. Last weekend's election was not so much a big Labor victory, but a massive backlash against the Liberals, especially in Western Australia and metropolitan inner-urban electorates across the nation. The 2022 federal election has not only brought about a change of government but has been one of the most interesting results in Australia's political history.
In the days, weeks, and years ahead PM Albanese will need to navigate through a very different parliament. Labor’s new minority/majority government faces daunting challenges including climate policy, inflation, rising interest rates, as well as the China threat, and intensifying geopolitical challenges. Will Labor be pushed further by Greens and Independents? Have these results shown that Australia is fed up with our major parties? Why was there such a significant swing against both major parties?

Great interview. Albrechtsen would make a great politician. Excellent range of topics discussed. Happy that nuclear was discussed. It would have been good to have discussion about their ABC & the impact on election outcomes (& democracy for that matter) including teals victories.

gender equality - yes, everything else - no. nothing makes any sense. it shouldn't cost australian taxpayers anything to transition completely to renewables. it should be budgeted for immediately, not a deflected subject resting on 'who will lose money? it's a bit too difficult'.

Excelent discussion.I think there's been too much Morrison bashing in the media. He's a good man and was a good PM. That probably cost the party a lot of support. We saw the same thing happen to Tony Abbott. The Teal thing is annoying me already. I sense a lot of virtue signalling. Let's just treat everyone equally. No quotas. The lurch to the left in Australia is scary.

Incorrect. No lurch to the left here, just a removal of braindead status quo. The teals are right wing progressives (yes that's a thing) they are anti wealth redistribution, low tax and everything else that's related to a right winger and the economy and hegemony. They just want more action on climate and women hence TEAL. Labor is center left and the greens are progressives or leftists. So 3 parties of a mixture of political stances but unified on no braindead status quo.

Good PM? You're out of your gourd. He ran from the fires, ignored the floods, sunk a deal on national defence and undermined covid solutions.
