I have many nice watches, and I do wear a lot of them, but still year by year, my most worn watch is still the simple SKX007. Lightly modded with only a sandblasted ceramic insert in the original style and a clear sapphire also OEM specs. The simplicity, legibility, versatility and timeless design come together to make it my favorite watch of all times. Everything I need and nothing I don’t. I wear mine on a nato or Uncle Seiko irezumi rubber.

Cool styling ideas. I wouldn't mind adding one of these.. almost did. But, I'm trying not to overrun my collection with Seiko's.. also, being I'm trying to put a cap on # of watches I really want in rotation.. idk? Should I really?.. can I really stop the Seiko tsunami with a set total collection count? My own struggles. But, one I'm sure enough of us have gone through at some point(s) in our personal watch hobby and journey. I don't know about you? But, I find myself constantly being pulled back to planet Seiko because it's gravity is so great. Dispite all the rants on going upmarket and the price hikes and the alignment and various QC issues, etc.. it's easily maybe my favorite brand as there are so many models I'm attracted to.. Seiko truly has "mass appeal", unlike any other brand... from entry affordable to ultra high horology if you go beyond GS into Credor.
@AverageBros
@AverageBros Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's tough to cap once you really cut loose and have too many. I do wish to trim down the total collection to make each remaining piece have a greater meaning but at this point I have so many Seiko's, I'm almost hesitant to let any go, because of the common bond they all share.

Oh, but you surely can. They are not nearly as utilitarian as they were. I have an original 6309, purchased by me in 1980. I also have two newer turtles, but they don't even come close. Seikos trend now is eye appeal, not functionality.

Love my Slim Turtle. Any suggestions on where to get the best bracelet for it? Jubilee maybe? Thanks in advance.
@AverageBros

Since these have a hard coating no aftermarket bracelet would quite match the case tone, so I wouldn't personally recommend any bracelet option and leave this one as a strap monster.

Thanks so much, in the beginning, my thoughts on showing myself were that the focus is the products and not me because who am I? Just some random guy making videos, but over the years I've made so many great connections and received such support, it makes me feel like, yeah, maybe people do want to get to know me too. So I've slowly been getting in front of the camera more here and there, as well as making my way to more events and meet ups. Well, this was a surprise for me. That Seiko is an amazing watch, but I would have guessed a different choice. Personally I thought you were going to say it was your Sinn U50, based on your enthusiasm during it's unboxing, and my fondness of that watch. But hence, it's fun not to be predictable. But in a way, sad that a U50 being so special for me, is scraps for another.
@AverageBros
@AverageBros Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it scraps, lol. It's clearly a better watch, just less versatile, so it gets worn less is all. I might even say that it excites me more to wear my U50, just less often.
@mikeklaus2992
@mikeklaus2992 Жыл бұрын
Sorry Mark, maybe I was a little harsh using the word scraps, and yes, the Sinn is probably not as versatile, being less glitzy than the Seiko, but of course depending on ones tastes and activity, I think the Sinn being slimmer and tougher makes it the perfect everyday watch (for me). Maybe your Marine background had me thinking it too would be yours too. They're both killers no doubt!
@AverageBros

That is very so very delightful to hear Mark. I hope it makes it through many years of your SOTC videos, but obviously any watch you own against the vast selection of watches you get to review makes it a real challenge to survive the long-term test. Thanks especially for being so transparent with your likes and dislikes. You're one of the very few who put their money where their mouth is.

I have the SPB155J "Alpinist". It's beautiful and I just love it - until someone asks me if I have the correct time. "Oh, sorry, I don't; my watch is a Seiko". It loses about 10 - 12 seconds a day, whether I leave it on the night stand while I sleep (in various positions), or keep it on my wrist. This Slim Turtle is gorgeous, but until Seiko starts regulating their watches to specs a lot tighter than" -one day to +Two days", I won't buy another. These are not $130.00 SNKs, these are expensive watches with their premiere midrange 6r35 movement, and it's capable of so much better accuracy.
@AverageBros
@AverageBros Жыл бұрын
Ouch, sorry to hear that! I've been relatively lucky with the 6R35 and have only had to manually adjust one of them out of the 15 or so that I own. Checkout my Alpinist collection video, cheers!

Although not a dive watch the Seiko Land Tortoise is a Prospex 200 meter turtle that is under 12mm thick. 42.4mm in diameter, 45.2mm lug to lug, 11.7mm thick, JDM model SBDY113 and US market SRPH17. Definitely worth a look!
@AverageBros
@AverageBros Жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah I know about the Land Tortoises, they are thinner and still have 20BAR WR, which is really cool. I've only not pulled the trigger because it sits between two of my most over collected subgenres, the Alpinist line and Seiko Divers. The Tortoise ends up being outdone by either isle. I still may pick one up eventually though, I do find myself checking on prices for the blue one from time to time, lol
@matyasd007

@@AverageBrosthat is why you need to pick it up to bridge the gap between the 2 genres. You get the best of both worlds in the Tortoise.
