Love my SRP777! I was able to snag it for $300 (thanks, Macy's) and it has been my beater watch of choice for some time now. I like it much more than the SKX I had for a few years. I find it more comfortable and I like how unique it looks. Also, it wears great on my flat 6.5" wrist. I wish it had sapphire but for $300 I'm not going to complain.

Bought my SRPE93 on sale for $310 start April this year. I have worn it everyday since - shift it with other watches to, but it is on my wrist >8 hours everyday. It hasn’t run out at any time and I haven’t reset it since day one and it’s 20 seconds fast now! Everything lines up perfectly, I’m satisfied. I much prefer this classic black turtle to the other colours and even the Kings, this is quintessential Seiko to me. I have a white-dialed king Samurai with ceramic and sapphire which suits the Samurai very well. If I could only keep one of my 11 Japanese watches ($120-$1000) it would be this Turtle, love this watch so much!

I have the SRPE93 quite some time now. To me, the best watch I own. It seems to be just right and it's "only $400"! My collection includes/included Rolex, Panerai, IWC, Omega. So let that sink in. The only thing I don't like is the lumed marker @3, so I ordered the "old" SRP777 dial to replace it and install a Japanese day disc for fun.

Fantastic video on a Seiko legend. Initially I was not a fan of the Turtle 🐢 and then my twin brother gifted me a Padi Turtle for my birthday 🥳. Well I’m still and always will love my SKX009 but my view on the turtle has definitely changed. The Turtle is an amazing 🤩 Seiko watch 👍🏻💯

I have a Black Manta SRPF77 and man the dial is TO DIE FOR. I get it you want a simple beater but the King Turtle Manta is GORGEOUS

In the 1980s I wore through many an original Swiss Made Tropic Sport band on my Seiko Turtle 6309-7040 Sanwa dial, resulting from countless hours of exposure to salt, sun, and chlorine. I would purchase the Tropic Sport bands because they were a fraction of the price of the genuine Seiko bands of the time. Back then I was convinced that one day the world would surely come to love and appreciate the extreme comfort, legibility, utility, and toughness of the Turtle - and the world has. Well done world, this is a perfect watch. Today the 6309-7040 is looking great and running perfectly, and it has a new flat Z22 Seiko strap.

I have the SRPC91, the first Save the Ocean dial. The way it catches light is something else. I also put mine on a black tropic rubber. It's a great everyday watch and still looks good after 4 years of ownership.

Thanks for the watch advice. I bought the turtle , made in Japan, and said goodbye to spending on an overpriced SKX. Companies were asking up to $999 for a SKXJ1. Alignment is spot on. I bought my black dial made in Japan turtle from Macys and it came with the PADI tag

Just snagged a boxed 777 for £90 online like new. Didn’t know much about Turtles other than I collect Seiko’s and it was too good to pass up… it’s AMAZING! The quality and the weight, the retro look. I jumped on the SKX bandwagon and honestly the 007 is old junk. I moved it on instantly. This is the low-key collectable for Seiko and Dive watch enthusiasts hands down!

Love this watch so much!! Few months ago, I got one for around USD 230 for the SRPE93K version in Indonesia. although it is not the "Made in Japan" version, it still has a good quality, and everything is aligned perfectly!!! The moment I got this watch, I placed a 31mm round tempered glass on the top of the hardlex crystal, and also changed the bezel insert to ceramic. Since then this is my full time daily beater

Perfect timing bro. I just got my first ever turtle about 5 weeks ago. I have 3 already. I love them. They fit great, large visible dial, very comfy and can mod and change including sapphire. Got 2 more on the way. A lot of fun.

Agree with you 100%, when I wear my sbdy015, it stays on my wrist for 3- 4 days. I do appreciate all the upgrades, the shiny, blingy looks, but at the end of the day I go back to the basic, essential tool manly men's watch.

I hope to buy this because it's a classic. Also because I like aluminum bezels because of how they age. Under $400 for this baby is a bargain. Would not be suprised if these will be ca. $1,000 in a decade if they get discontinued.

In 1989, a NEW Rolex 5513 Submariner would have cost £695 in the UK. A Omega Speedmaster Professional was similarly priced. I don’t use my Speedmaster or SMP ceramic anymore, because they are worth more now than when I bought them brand new. I just want a mechanical watch I can wear everyday and not worry about scratching it! This Seiko looks to be the ideal watch for that purpose.

Bro, in the 90's when I worked in the mall I used to go to the Rolex auth dealer there. I was in love with the Rolex Sub 2 tone gold/SS with the bright royal blue dial. It was about $5,999. The stainless sub without gold was $3k something.

Thanks for the review. From skx back to the 7002. The stem and case design was actually prone to water damage regardless sooner than most models unless serviced regularly. Add onto that an unimpressive 7s26 housed in mostly tropical climates.. I must say. The turtle and turtle design has become unmatched in these ways. Most 7002s will be damaged relatively after 10 to 15 yrs. Regardless of how intentional the water play. 6309 to the srpe93. Game changer. I'll wear my black turtles forever. Easy on the movement. It simply isn't a workhorse as its put off to be. One good smack will render the 4r useless. 2824 is still a league above this 4r. But w less maintenance. High lume. Legible dial. History. No brainer .

I had this watch back in 1979 when it wasn't even called a turtle. It was an automatic way during the era when most Seikos were quartz watches.

I have a SRP773J1 with English/Arabic days of the week. I recently had a black Islander ceramic bezel insert installed. The subtle contrast makes my watch pop. My chapter ring is perfectly aligned. So is my Sea Urchin. Bought both watches from online dealers in Singapore.

I always thought that a Seiko watch made in Japan iwould say “Japan” on bottom of dial NOT “Made in Japan” which I was under impression were watched made in Malaysia

I have the deep blue dial one shipped from Japan so it has the kanji date and the made in Japan markings got it about 2 weeks ago and hasn’t left my wrist during the day

I definitely favor the simple, matte black legibility for a tool watch, but I’m on the fence between this and the Anthracite dial, since that one doesn’t have the lume plot at 3 (like the 777). It would be pretty cool if they could just lume the date wheel.

UPDATE- I got a strap from Uncle turtle and its awesome. Good thing about the turtle it looks great on any strap. And BTW long island watch is where I got my Seiko.

Currently second guessing my order of a SRPE35, while I wait for it to ship. Wondering if I should have gone the Turtle route instead. I do, however, already own a Willard, which is why I initally gravitated towards a King Samurai.

I have the K1 model with perfect alignment. First Seiko on mine that's straight. I love this reissue. No back play on the bezel and best Seiko silicone strap I've ever worn.

The PADI version, for as far as I know, was manufactured by Japan and some other Asian country (where I can't remember correctly). The Japan made one has Chinese date wheel. However, it was never sold in Japan market.

Fantastic Turtle! I bought a SRP777 a few years ago. I wear it somewhat. However I added a low profile Dagaz bezel and a Uncle Seiko waffle rubber strap. Looks vintage with the mods I added. I really wish Seiko made these without a day/date complication. If I can find a aftermarket dial that looks just like this OEM dial. I’ll swap it in. I think a time only Turtle will be the Seiko to own.

Shame its not really made in Japan but if it makes you feel good to think that ! No watch that cheap is ever made in Japan.

I like the Turtle a lot but I like the SKX case a bit more so instead of buying a Turtle I bought the SRPD55 (Seiko 5 sports) and modded it to SKX specs :D

Yeah that one is made in Japan but check out the chaptering and the 6 hour marker; they are completely misaligned.

I'd still go for the SRP777J1, that little blot next to the day/date window messes up the dial symmetry for me. That's all theoretical in any case as I own the SRP775J1 and I truly believe it's the best looking turtle re-issue, in my eyes anyway.

Just picked up one from a friend today for 150$

I really wanted to like the Tropic strap, but the holes are too far apart and I cannot get a good fit. It is always either too tight to too lose. Went back to Barton Elite for that reason.

As much as I love to get a Seiko I cant justify the cost. Steeldive give you saphire glass and the same quality. Its not perfect but surprising neither is Seiko

Uuugggghhhh….. I see Seiko still can’t align a chapter ring. The whole chapter ring needs to be rotated clockwise. I do love the look of the full size turtles though, especially the dial with day/date in the standard black colourway. Unfortunately way too big for my 6.5” wrist. Mini-turtles for me all day long… Just bought an SBDY085 to pair with my 3.5 year old SRPC39.

Why not just get a King Turtle? Sapphire Xstal,ceramic bezel insert. I have seen them roughly the same price from Seiko AD's.
