One evening, many, many years ago, talking to one guy in a bar about BMWs, another guy says to me, I've got a car outside you might like to see. So we go out in the parking lot, he shows me this car, says it's a TVR with a V8. Asks would I like to go for a quick ride. We get in, we're going downhill, every time he shifts up, the whole front of the car comes off the ground. Decades later, I can still see it in my mind. Incredible.

Super video thanks! I've just this month bought a TVR Chimaera, Its so much fun on mountain pass roads with 240 HP it only weighs 1060kg 2300lbs. No power steering no Trac control no ABS brakes. This means your senses are tuned into what the car is doing. Fantastically rewarding car to drive!

The early TVR Griffith’s were born out of Jack Griffith’s desire to beat Shelby and his Cobra, the small block version, he was a Ford dealer on Long Island in New York State. He had a small block Cobra in his shop and he and his mechanics thought what the heck, they wondered if that motor and tranny would fit in a TVR Grantura. I read a guy who owned a 200 with a Shelbized motor said he felt safer driving a racing motorcycle at Daytona than sitting in his garage with it idling. I had a 1965 200 and I pulled my souped up 302 backed up by a Doug Nash 5-speed out of my Fox body 5.0 GT. It was stupid fast but squirrely as in very twitchy. My wife, my father, my mother even my kids begged me to get rid of it because it was an insane and now looking back in time it was rather dangerous actually. Many of the Series 200s came with a 2bbl 289, a few with 271 hp version and of course many modded them with Shelby Cobra add-ons like 4x2bbl Webers etc....The early Griffiths weighed next to nothing thus giving these 85 inch wheelbase cars incredible power to weight ratios. I still have a huge soft spot in my heart for the Griffith’s especially the Series 200.

I've always heard these cars didn't handle well. From this video I see that is not the case. I'm sure there are some mods, but I heard mostly the wheelbase made them ill handling. Even when the driver pushed it and things got a little out of control, he was able to bring it back in quite effectively. Great car and great driver!

I think people drive them and get a fright if they are not accustomed to a race car. Even the road cars have race chassis and coil over. When the 4 wheels are not correctly aligned or the tires are hard with age. With a super low center of gravity and weighing in at 2200 lbs balanced 50/50 makes for a swift and stable cornering machine! Also many tvr are running way way to high tire pressure. This takes a lot of traction away. Chimaera owners manual says 22psi front, 24psi rear.

Es empfiehlt sich, das zufällige und stete Wechseln der Handposition am Lenkrad , um ein Maximum an Verwirrung für das Gehirn zu stiften, in welche Richtung die Vorderräder stehen. Was da an Zeit liegen bleibt...tolles Auto übrigens.

Way twitchy as compared with my old Toyota Corolla GTS RWD-Posi from '85, or even my Saab 9-3 Turbo (which had Wicked 'Torque-steer' that the 900/99/97/96/95 Old Saabs did not have)!
