Going on a tour of some iconic “ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD” locations, all found in and around Los Angeles.
1) MUSSO & FRANK, a Tinseltown staple on Hollywood Blvd that’s been around for 100 years, destination for industry players. One of our favorite restaurants, an authentic New York-style steakhouse with uniformed waiters and a retro-vibe. Great place for a steak and key lime pie. Also seen “Ocean’s 11” and “Swingers”.
2) CIELO DR intersection with the Cielo private road, near the real former Tata-Polanski residence. The intersection was featured in the movie as the bottom of the private road.
3) RICK DALTON HOUSE, which is supposed to be at the top of Cielo Dr., is in fact in Studio City.
4) JOSEPH’S CAFE, at the corner if Yucca and Ivar in Hollywood, doubled as Pandora’s Box, an iconic nightclub from the sixties.
5) CINERAMA DOME, the legendary movie theatre that appeared in the film, still operates on Sunset Blvd.
6) REGENCY BRUIN THEATER, another iconic movie theater in Westwood is where Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) goes to watch her own movie “The Wrecking Crew”. This cinema is also still in operation, or rather usually is when the country is not in a pandemic.
7) EL COYOTE, famous Mexican restaurant on Beverly Blvd, where Sharon Tate and her friends dine at the end of the film.
8) NEW BEVERLY CINEMA, which sits one block east of El Coyote, is now own by Quentin Tarantino and shows double-features nightly from QT’s own personal collection.

I grew up in Southern California and was a teenager in the mid 60’s and remember these places well. Walked past many of them, ate at them and cruised around with my brother in his ‘60 Mercury on those boulevards.

Great stuff! Im always amazed how they make all these timepieces with the cars and buildings and make it look so convincing. How is it done? They just shut the whole road down???

They did! They filmed one side of the street at a time! There’s an excellent behind the scenes doc on the Blu-ray.

great vid! how id you do the super 8 thing at the start

I have some old super8 footage transferred to video and at the heads and tails always have just a few seconds of white. I put that on a loop to use the super 8 black frame and did a luma key, overlaying it over the footage. The footage was then treated with grain, dirt and prism blur filters.

??? Did they use Excelsior high school in Norwalk in the movie “once upon a time in Hollywood” ?? I was getting flashbacks of the movie “Grease 2” I took classes there in the late 80’s

Why these modern shops and theaters don't keep that way cooler retro look is beyond me. The modern style is so grey and boring .

It's a shame they got rid of the backlit at Universal studios, it's as they don't want to keep movie history a live. It's like saying we are going to take a original movie, like footloose, the breakfast club and make remakes of them. Hey, Hollywood I will never watch remakes of the cult classics you did in the past. Don't touch history. You do? We will never know of the once was. There was a once was. Until you altered it.
