What I like about this scene of this movie is that its told in the form of unreliable narrative, we don't know how things went down exactly, but we do know basically what happened. What we see is from the imagination of the two people talking at the table think how things might have happened, its a nice call back from the second film.

JUST realized this story is basically the first movie all in one story. The general is boocho Salma was the beautiful woman but a change in the story is she's the knife thrower from the first movie. And this bar fight is like the bar fight from the first because like in that fight Antonio and the numbers guy run out of bullets while in each others face like he n the general. Guy on the ground gun to his face like the first film guy that opened the case was thrown on the ground....yea basically the first movie just embellished and changed around worst than an Akira toriyama show

Yup, that's pretty much what he said at 2:11. I thought it was funny how in this story he had an electric guitar that was a machine gun/shot gun with explosive rounds instead of a hollow acoustic guitar that had guns inside of it.

Technicaly the movie you are talking about is not the first but the second, DESPARADO is a sequel of EL MARIACHI, This movie had some elements from the actual first movie like the Thriller vibes from some storylines like the one with Ramirez chasing Barrillo but keeps the action from the second one.

Yea you’re kinda late to the party but the way I’ve always seen it is all 3 movies are a retelling of the same story if you think about it… El Mariachi being The Man (The way the events could’ve actually gone down)… Desperado being The Myth (an embellished retelling of the original story)… and Once Upon a Time in Mexico being The Legend (an over the top, heavily embellished telling of the story).

I remember being so excited when I heard this movie was coming out as I was a huge fan of Desperado which I still am today. When I saw it, all I can remember was being so disappointed. I wanted to like this movie, but just did not enjoy it. This movie did not have the same feel as Desperado, in fact it felt too "Hollywood". The plot was way too convoluted and there were too many characters. In an attempt to one up Desperado as its sequel It was just missing too many of the things that made Desperado great. For me the Mariachi storyline ends perfectly at Desperado.

I agree 100% It just felt different. I’m not sure why Robert Rodriguez went for that spy kids element in this. Even the soundtrack wasn’t memorable like in Desperado. It wasn’t as serious & like you said very Hollywood style

While it would be impractical, one could stick a stripped down carbine inside a guitar body. Though I’ve no idea how they could fire it by playing the strings (a small trigger located at where the neck and the guitar body meet would be more practical, though less cinematic) and there’s no way they could hide the grenade launcher

Agreed. As ridiculous as Desperado was at times, this one took all of that and ratcheted up to 11. The only way I can watch this movie, is that the action scenes where people are flying all over the place is told as a tall tale from a storyteller/dreamer's perspective. At least in Desperado, El Mariachi could be believed as a renegade who was very lucky in avoiding bullets. In this one he's a superhero with inhuman powers.

Throwing four knives in one motion at four targets doesnt work, because each one would have need a slightly different trajectory / throwing motion. I mean he is "immune to being hit", but that throw was simply unbelieveable.

@@Muck006 Exactly, they just went to far with the gunfights and the guitars and all in the second....The first movie might could really happen the second one not and left us hanging about aspects of the first movie as well.
