I think you’re absolutely right: if someone fell in love with a house and has the budget for the renovations he should go for it!!!

Excellent advice. There are some great bargains, but too many people looking at property have either no imagination, unreasonably high expectations or both. Research is imperative and zeroing in on a particular area really helps or you can be overwhelmed. I really hope Italy will relax its rules on residency. We want to live there full time. Purchasing a home that we can only live in 90 days at a time would make buying a retirement home there a foolish waste of money.

I agree, Italy wants foreigners to buy homes to help their dying communities and bring in income, yet they make it difficult. My boyfriend and I are both 2nd generation American/ Italian, we have family in Italy, but we still are under the 90-day rule, which France has as well. So, it makes the move very difficult. This is fantastic! One man’s cave is another man’s mansion. I am not opposed to camping out and roughing it for some months if it means I could have my own home in Italy. I am applying for the new digital nomad visa as I have been working as an online reading and language arts teacher for years now. I will eventually apply for citizenship through my Grandparents as well. For me everything is beginning to align and I am excited that I may be able to realize a dream.

My understanding is that a 1 eu home actually costs around $5k including taxes, fees, exchange rate, etc. is that about what you understand as well?

Ciao Fiorella and Aden, this was a really good informative video, I replied to one of your followers. Here's the thing, the old saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't." when you are buying a 1Euro home you are not going to get a castle, you will be lucky if you have walls. That's why I love your channel, without writing a novel here, you are able to help people who want to make the move understand that it takes time, money and knowledge. Anyone looking for a 1 Euro home, should expect to spend up to 15,000. then add your renovation costs, what you have budgeted. It should be the end game to keep in sight. A life living in Italy. The one deterrent is getting residency. One piece of advice, take a holiday to the area you are looking to buy in make sure it's what you really want. "Grazie Mille" P.S. Aden I love your coffee mug. Amore da N.Y.

From my viewpoint, what stops me considering a move to Italy is the amount of income a pensioner needs to have coming in per month which is around twice as much as UK pensioners typically get, and I am not talking about those buying a €1 house, this is the case even when people have sold their UK home and are willing to use their cash to buy a full price home in Italy. This is a major deterrent.

What amount is that exactly to quality?

Same with the US. I have the money to buy there but unlikely to get a long term visa due to the income requirements.

Hi Guys! My family and I, have started the process, of apply for “Italian Citizenship by Descent”. Luckily, my grandfather didn’t become a naturalised Australian citizen, until six years after the birth of my father. My children will be able to become Italian citizens as well. My daughter’s plan is to buy a home in Italy, that she can renovate and hopefully move there. My youngest son, a chef, would love to open up a cafe, somewhere in Calabria, where his paternal grandparents originated from. ( My grandfather came from Veneto). My eldest son, would just love to get back to his roots. It seems that everything is going full circle. Our ancestors left for a better life and get away from the ravages of war and depression and here we are, two-three generations later and we can’t get back there fast enough. By the way, hello from Perth, where we are still waiting for Autumn to arrive. I love your You Tube channels and I watch every video that you put out. You both are doing a wonderful job. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Looks like we’re all reading the same articles and/or seeing the same videos. Yes, Mussomeli and $450k in renovations. Like I told my friend, that woman TOTALLY missed the point of moving to Italy. Affordability is the attraction, and most people abroad aren’t wanting to spend over $100k, initially.

You could buy one heck of a nice house in Italy for 450k. I would never spend that on a renovation. That’s just nuts 👎🏻
@christineheaver6858
@christineheaver6858 22 күн бұрын
However, if your heck of a nice house is not in the place you want… if you don’t have 450k in the bank but might be gaining 450 k or more over say 10 years then renovation does make more sense. So, everyone’s situation is different and just because you wouldn’t do it doesn’t make it ‘nuts’. I’ve know people in the uk do that sort of thing, adding a bit extra on every 10 years till the cottage they bought is a mansion.

I’ve seen AMAZING Tuscan villas with lovely gardens and Mountain View’s, and swimming pool for $450k. This woman just bought in a run down part of Sicily, overlooking crumbling buildings and roofs. No clue what the thinking was.

But if i spent 450k on a Reno and bought exactly where i wanted and Reno d to exactly my taste how am I further behind? Everyone has their own rational and choice to make.

I've been following your channel for at least a year now, because I want to retire soon (from the United States), and am looking at buying in either Italy, Greece (specifically Crete) or Costa Rica. But awhile back, I texted my brother and his wife about a particular property that you showed on your channel, and he replied that he wouldn't recommend moving to Italy because of their political climate. Is it possible for you to either do a video about that, or to reply directly to me with your take on the politics in Italy? Thanks!

You are correct, people’s expectations are unrealistic. Everyone need to budget like at least $40-70,000 to make it livable to your standard 🇨🇦 Still a cheap solution for vacation or full time.

Even though I would be spending thousands of Euros to make my own, it’s still possible and cheaper than in my country where buying a home is now for the wealthy. Even a ‘dump ‘ can cost you close to $1 million CDN, making it out of reach for most unless you have a hefty mortgage or live on the prairie provinces (weather can be brutal), or choose to live in a tiny ‘chicken coop’ like apartment for big bucks. Some homes have been bought up by foreign conglomerates, making the problem worse, since many are hiding dirty money this way.
