One Handed Recip Saws. New Brushless DeWALT vs. the Old Guard

This time I'm reviewing Compact One-handed Reciprocating Saws from DeWalt, Makita, and Milwaukee. These smaller saws are perfect for everything but the largest demo job. Their small size make them a joy when you're inside a cabinet making a cut or working in a small space. But small doesn't mean anemic. These saws are more powerful than you think. Take a look and see what I learned about each of them.

Good review Mark. I have the Dewalt DCS367 (compact brushless recip saw) and while it's plenty powerful in a somewhat compact package, the vibration is a deal breaker. It causes actual pain to my hand and forearm after about a minute of use. There are real medical risks of using a tool with bad vibration control - can be harmful to blood flow, clotting, nerves, etc. So I'm glad to hear the new Atomic saw from Dewalt has great vibration control. Since I'm already heavily invested in that battery platform I might pick one up.

I actually like the Non Fuel Hackzall over the Fuel version. It just feels better. Also i dropped it in a 2 foot hole full of water by accident and got it out of there after about 30 seconds. It ran like nothing happened lol It still works amazing

Yeah but also keep in mind which tool will last longer, I used to use dewalt and milwaukee but always pooped out. Now all makita only.

The Milwaukee will last longer. Brushed DIY trash doesn't compare to the Milwaukee.

All my Milwaukee tools minus the impact have last a year at best. Was thinking of making a switch to Mikita but the safety on the hackzall is a deal breaker. Gotta be able to cut pipe with one hand in plumbing:(

My brushed makitas have outlasted all my Milwaukee I've owned, I'm perfectly happy with a slower working tool if it can pay for itself more times than my Milwaukee can!

@@tacoguy5769 get the black Makita subcompact reciprocating saw. It beats all these models. Can use it one handed or 2 handed. Shorter body length than the milwaukee. This Makita model is also Brushless

Bought Makita couple a days ago. Not impressed, because if you compare to a bigger Makita 18v saws, this is really a toy. But I wanted to have ''one hand tool'' tho.

02:25 Milwaukee version in the test is not a 'Fuel'. The Fuel model is the other one with a larger brushless motor.

Number of strokes per minute would have been useful. In the metal cutting test the makita looked to be going way too fast especially, as we all know heat kills blades. Is there speed control on these things??

The worst problem with milwaukee is that the blade shaft has play and allows the blade to wiggle side to side. Making it hard to make straight cuts . The other saws don't have play in them. One thing missed in your review. I have contacted milwaukee and they act like there isn't a problem.

Im a Makita guy- but their tool is useless, I had to return mine after it took forever to cut a piece of wood with a new blade...

It works great for me as a plumber...cuttin pvc pipe under cabinets without a big heavy ass sawzall...i had the dewalt at one point though it was amazing not gunna lie..but now that i have makita stuff the saw works fine for what i use it for

The battery that comes with the dewalt sucks if you used a xr battery you would have gotten better times

I like this comparison because the Milwaukee fuel is even bigger. This non fuel(not brushless) saw he tested is less money and smaller than the fuel. It was also still the biggest and heaviest of these 3 saws. I have Dewalt and Milwaukee. Have the older swing handle 12v Dewalt great tool and the copy 12v porter cable these small saws work great for HVAC and I do t ever use my big sawzalls anymore. I've been watch all the newer small recipe saw vids and I now think I'm going to get the 12v fuel version. I can tell u any of these would b great if u don't like super heavy large tools. If u will use it for 2hrs a day get the milw or Dewalt but even the 12volts work great I've used mine for yrs to cut steal and 2x4 and anything. Prune trees . My dad tapped his 12v Dewalt to a stick to Peru e trees lol.

I like your work, but this test unfortunatlye poor - primarely because of the usage of identical blades. As you state @2:17, the stroke lengths are different. Hence, the Makita needs more tooths per inch, compared to the others. The blades you put on it were all sub-optimal for its design.

The makita is garbage its under powered even using the blade that came with the saw nd a 5 ah battery I was cutting pvc and it took so long that I preferred to just break it
