I bought a replacement microwave last Nov and been dreading on installing it since. After watching this video I finally installed it and happy to say if it wasn't this video I prolly would of had done a horrible job and been stressed out. So thanks for the video.

Good job bud. I do this routinely at work myself. Never thought about making a KZfaq vid tho lol. Sometimes the bottom tabs on the hanging bracket are close but maybe a tad too large, so to negate swapping the entire bracket I trim those two bottom tabs with metal shears. Makes life easier lol. To all those dissecting this video: This man is showing you a DIY video on how to do this alone, inexpensively and without some expensive tools some might not have. Appreciate the effort instead of nitpicking. Oh, also only new construction with lackadaisical code have studs that aren't 16" on center. I just built a new house and all studs were 16" on center. You might want to fire your contractor, most won't go less than 16" because it's a crap way to build.

Having done this numerous times a few pointers. Remember to set the blower fan housing to the proper configuration, recycle or outside exhaust. This must be set before installation. I also dry fit the microwave in its spot and mark the wall or see if the existing bracket lines up. If it's the same brand likely no issues and a direct fit. However if its a fresh install, mark the wall at where the lower part of the microwave and wall meets. Make sure the appliance is flush tight before making this mark. Then use this mark to install the wall bracket. Using the supplied template works most of the times but I've had times dry fitting and marking was a guaranteed fit. Thou, this is a Good video!

sure wish the wall brackets and cabinet hole spacing was standardized by now.

The one I just took out (new one arriving tomorrow morning) was one I put in by myself - I ended up with a few things stacked on top of the stove to help prop it up in place while I installed it. Ultimately mine was balanced on the final top piece of my "support pyramid" - a jar of peanut butter... :) Worked great to hold it in place while I secured the screws on top. This time I learned my lesson, I've pulled my stove out so I can get in there easily to do this on my own...

Buy some beer and get a couple of friends to help you. a home depot bucket and some magazines under it can help you hold the whole thing up from the stove while you bolt it in, especially when you are remodeling.

Microwaves have gotten so much smaller and lighter over time. I had this tank of a microwave from the mid 80s that was about twice as large as this one.

NIce video, really shows the necessary basics. I agree with the person below suggesting to us a car jack to hold the micro in place. I will be using a scissor jack instead of a hydraulic jack.. I will probably attach a small piece of wood to the top of the jack as well as the piece underneath. Thanks!!!

Great video.....I will replacing ours next week....bought the same model so the support bracket SHOULD be the same configuration. With the corona virus, I may try to install myself as my wife is pretty adament about not having anyone in the house anytime soon. If I do install myself, I will build a support to "rest" the MW just prior to installing AND just before the MW goes fully up and against the bottom of the cabinet. I'll know for sure next week when the MW is delivered....and how well my back is feeling on this 64 year old frame.

I wish I had your video the FIRST time our microwave died. Now our 2nd microwave is on its last legs, and I'm studying how to do it again. . . You make it look easy.

yeah provided all youre top mount holes line up with the original. if you have dont have the exact model youll have to drill new mount holes

Pilot drill through the bottom of the cabinet, then finish the hile by drilling through the top so you don't Splinter the cabinet which is nothing but particle board in most cases. cut spacers the same thickness of the recess in the bottom of your cabinet so you can tighten the screw securely without risk of bending the top of the microwave up or damaging the cabinet. Other than that, perfect install.

Dude Your freaking amazing a one man install those things weigh a ton. Suggestion to any one lay a 2 by 2 flat piece of plywood on the stove top to protect it because your putting a hydraulic car on top then lay another piece on top a hydraulic car jacks make sure its center your microwave on the plywood than then jack up the microwave until flush with top . You be surpize how easy it goes up that way . Hook to back bracket then top bolts align up bingo your done. Of course connect to vent stack if you have it if not smoke will blow out of the front setting the smoke alarm off so hook to the vent stack or get one. I did this method a dozen times it keeps you from killing your back. take care

Could you tell me how to make sure the microwave and the duct are properly sealed together? I see you just put them to probably touch each other but there may also be a small gap.

I was watching and I was wondering did you edit the movie because I saw yo put up microwave on the back bracket but then I don't understand? how the top was almost holding up by itself is there a catch once you put up far enough that it will latch it self temporary until you screw down the permanent lags screws?

I replaced a old microwave that was here before I bought the place, they came to install it, removed the old one and saw that the plug in was behind the microwave, must have been where they put it when they built the place, and the installer refused to install it until I have a electrician come out and install a new outlet. I see that in your video there is a pre installed outlet in the cabinet above the microwave, is that pretty standard?

It seems the tricky part is hooking the lower rear of the microwave to the mounted plate. I guess you have to get it in there tilted at some angle.

Is that some kind of foam seal on the bottom of the cabinet that meets the microwave?

Just pull the range out to protect the surface, and to allow for more leverage if doing the job solo. Also, you may want to consider using a larger washer when securing from the top. Yours don't cover the holes completely. Just a suggestion. I've seen too may homeowners do this themselves, only to discover down the road, after the unit falls and breaks their glass top, they should've used larger ones.

I'm handy but this looks like a total pain in the ass. How did you line up the holes for the bolts that were inserted from the top? and how do you know exactly what height to attach the bracket so when you angle the microwave in and then straighten it out you don't have a gap or you don't come up short?

I used my BMW car jack, it worked because when closed it becomes almost flat. I bolted a plank of 1/2" thick, 1 foot square wood on it, I rested the micorwave on it and slowly lifted. it was an easy work actually. I put a thick blanket on the stove below to protect it. They charge $150.00 for installation. Give Me a break.

Great job going it solo. I think you missed an important part and that would be a little more detail on which fastener type to use. Toggle, wood screws or tapcons. Proly could be its own video. Bottom line nice job.

Well there was an existing before so it makes a lot more easier, should make vids from scratch..cutting cabinet holes,ducting, etc.
