Scotty I wanted to thank you for what you do. I’ve been dealing with a divorce, loosing my home, custody court fights, and a load of other issues. Watching your videos reminds me of how amazing just being alive is. As a result I’ve purchased my first backpack and tarp and am working up my endurance to go on a weekend trip with my camera to enjoy exploring the outdoors. Agreed. And feral cats and dogs are a MAJOR problem. Hunters save so much native wildlife each year by eradicating these pests

My dad had double knee replacements within 6 weeks of each other at 67 years old. You should get those knee replacements so you can be active again. My dad got them done so he wouldn't be in your exact predicament.

Agree 100% with allowing hunters to assist with eradication of pests in Australia. Unfortunately due to so much red tape and political pushback, the pests will continue to destroy our native land. Thank you for shining light on the issue 💜

Recreational hunter, there is no such thing! Hunters do so to eat and live. There are recreational shooters who do just do that: shoot! They won't solve the problem because they want their quarry to be there forever!

During the 1980's the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park had a huge over population of kangaroos, These roos were destroying the fragile balance of flora and fauna in the park, they were responsible for the almost extinction of the Mallee fowl. It was decided that as summer was approaching and the park was in the midst of drought they would have to cull some roos. Protestors from Melbourne travelled to the park causing a massive shit storm that ended up with the park cancelling the cull. 4 months later up to 50,000 Roos died of starvation. I lived in the area and experienced first hand the slow painful death these animals were subjected to. Caused by city folk who in their ignorant and righteous indignation were totally to blame. None of these do-gooders bothered to travel back to the park to see the suffering they had caused to these poor creatures and many other species in the park. I sincerely hope you never get to see this, because you will never get those images out of your mind. Get real and get informed, the damage down to our glorious National parks by introduced feral animals is exploding right across this country. Thank god we have conservationists like Scotty who is out in these locations seeing first hand the damage being done.

I understand people not wanting to personally take part in hunting, but anyone against it, particularly from a conversation standpoint, is just uneducated on the subject. It is the grazing and trampling from large herbivores, both native and introduced, that creates the "parkland" environment that we all enjoy. Remove them and you end up with an overgrown bushland full of bugs. What is often described as "damage" is only a part of the natural process and is rarely permanent. Remember there were many species of very large herbivores in Australia in the past; after they went extinct their impact on the environment was replaced by aborigine-managed fires. Currently large introduced herbivores are doing the same sort of work.

I’m from Queensland and I hike remotely in the rainforest…. I’ve walked through a certain area of rainforest up here and seen over 100 pigs nests/burrows in the space of a few hours. It’s a real problem. I wouldn’t hunt personally but I have had similar thoughts about getting rid of the pigs.

In the states, it's free reign on the pigs. For alligators, that is controlled, but the hunters do eat the meat and use the pelts to make things and sell them. All the people who have a problem with it, don't spend any time in the wild and do not understand. There have always been hunters in my family and I get it.

YES! Thank you for bringing up hunting/pest control in national parks. As a hunter myself, it's so refreshing to hear someone such as yourself bring this up. Anyone who doesn't agree, doesn't spend enough time outdoors, and are actually apart of the problem. And FYI, you didn't see two pigs last night. You seen dozens per year walk past. The way they breed, it's insane.

i agree on the hunting. besides 'kill to eat' there could also be 'tranq and tag' to see where and how species live in the parks which would be good for education and safety of newbie campers.

I live in an area being devistated by them and what you suggest should have been programmed years ago. Great video Scott. As someone who has also adventured for years I completely agree that more can be done to lower the number of feral species. Recreational hunting would make a real difference at a far lesser cost to what the government currently spends.

Hi Scotty I love your work. Keep up the gorgeous comments etc. I love it - let those people get as drunk as they like while watching it. Gives them an excuse for a drink I guess. As a bushwalker myself, I also see the damage done by deer, goats pigs and feral horses. They do need cleaning up to protect our unique bushlands. Definitely a great idea to involve hunting clubs etc under the control of rangers in our national parks. Keep on keeping on...

Hi Scotty, great episode, have been following you for quite a while mate. 100% agree with what you said about hunting of feral animals and how recreational hunters could be used to help solve this issue. It needs to be done the correct way and unfortunately up until now there has been lots of individuals involved in hunting that don't respect the animals or the environment they come from, but with the great hunting community now, this is beginning to change. With the right recreational hunters this idea could benefit everyone and hunting could be done in a more humane way rather than a helicopter leaving an animal wounded and wasted. I agree with what you’re saying Scotty. We walked through Oxley Wild Rivers NP and the destruction from the wild pigs was so sad to see, we were really concerned about erosion along the creek we were walking along. We’ve heard wild pigs while out camping in national parks inland of the sunny coast too. I wouldn’t hunt them myself but if we could bring in more professionals in a recreational manner and like you said, actually use the meat - that’s definitely a win for our national parks.

I was in Carnavon George in July and had a run in with a pig. Quite scary. Lots of damage there from the pigs. They should definitely be culled!

Scotty I am referring to your comments about hunting and feral pigs in national parks. I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Kosciuszko National Park both on and off the beaten track. I was in awe of the feral horses in the area but brokenhearted by the damage I witnessed on creek beds on Trail and anywhere the horses hooves damaged the National Park. There are extremely powerful political and private interest groups persuading government that the horses should be protected. Please use your influence to shine a light on just how destructive these feral animals are for our parks for the native wildlife and the flora that our indigenous creatures depend upon.

100% agree with a managed approach to recreational hunting of feral animals. Down here in the Victorian high country feral deer are running rampant and causing massive amounts of destruction. Their numbers have exploded in recent years.

Beautiful country Scotty. Agree regarding the hunting of feral animals by permit system. They do that quite effectively in the States from what I’ve seen/heard, I guess as you say it’s a touchy subject.

Thanks for another great video Scott. I'm with you on the hunting. I grew up in New Zealand where hunting is normal in National Parks. Our family belonged to the deerstalkers' association even though we weren't hunters ourselves because they had really cheap lodges to stay at when we were going tramping, and the blokes were always really friendly with us kids, top blokes. Recreational hunting does help keep feral populations down and safety issues can be managed. The introduction would need to be carefully managed, since we don't have the same experience in the community here.

Scotty I 100 percent agree with you about hunting the feral animals in national parks etc. I find it frustrating as the feral population take refuge in these national parks where they cannot be touched. And they just breed and continue to destroy the natural habitat and also many native living species. Australia needs to adopt a similar system to New Zealand. It's free to hunt in national parks in NZ. The hunter is doing the pest control for free in return for meat for the freezer for friends and family. It's a no brainer. Love your vids mate. Another great video mate, and I 100% agree with you with the hunting, they do it that way in America and it works really well, hopefully np wakes up and sees there way of “controlling” feral animals is outdated and in affective, anyway keep up the great work mate.
