Description:
5 CMS summer students and only 1 minute to present their poster!
Nima Hamed, Amal Ali Marzooq, Andres Chicaiza, Aljoharh Alshwaish and Firas Abou Karnib took on this incredibly difficult challenge and presented their projects at CERN.
Are there any abbreviations you don’t know? Keep reading!
- Nima presents on top-quark plus J/ψ production from double parton scatterings in pp collisions at CMS.
- Amal presents on timing reconstruction using TOFHIR chips for the MTD DAQ system
- Andres presents on luminosity measurements at CMS using DT Phase 2 Demonstrator
- Aljoharh and Firas presents on inspection robot
Glossary of Abbreviations and Acronyms:
J/ψ meson = a subatomic particle, a flavour-neutral meson consisting of a charm quark and a charm antiquark
MTD = MIP Timing Detector
MIP = Minimum ionizing particle
ETL = Endcap Timing Layer
BTL = Barrel Timing Layer
SiPM = Silicon photomultiplier (a sensor that addresses the challenge of sensing, timing and quantifying low−light signals down to the single−photon level.)
Luminosity = a measure of how many collisions are happening in a particle accelerator. More specifically, it measures how many particles we are able to squeeze through a given space in a given time. That doesn’t mean that those particles will all collide, but the more we can squeeze into a given space, the more likely they are to collide
Arduino = a microcontroller for controlling digital devices.
Jetson Nano = a small, powerful computer that lets you run multiple neural networks in parallel for applications like object detection
