I don't play JRPGs anymore but this game kidnapped my interests and I finally got 100% today. After over 75 hours, it was worth every minute I played. Any true gamer must play this.

Agreed. This games taken me back to secret of evermore vibes. If this came out when mana, evermore was about, this would be considered a total classic now. Absolutely incredible story, clever battle system makes you think. Subbed. Good content.

Chained Echoes is amazing, reminds me of how i felt when i played CrossCode, another great rpg.

There is a german interview about the game. He did 99% of the art by himself, the entire sound / music is from another dude named Eddy. He was a former media print designer and worked 9 years FULL time on that project - which is insane.

But now I'm wishing Tactics Ogre: Reborn got the high-definition retro treatment of projects like Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy and Diofield Chronicles; I also would have greatly appreciated a bit of modernizing of the old-school pixel art. They had the resolution landscape to play with, and there's a rabid audience for the game.. no excuse not to improve the visuals when they're putting THAT kinda price tag on it!

Haven't beaten the game yet but with 30 plus hours put into it I really enjoy. The combat can be very indepth with the weapons, crystals and skills offered by the characters while also not feeling overly complex or absolutely needed ( to a point). I just wish you didn't find the best weapon and armor of each area after I upgraded everything lol. The sky armor combat is really cool and unique as well not overly complex but still different from the main fighting. Based on what I've experienced story wise I like it a lot, the different races, history, other continents, magic, tech it's all here its a very thought out world, I also appreciate the developer adding some dark elements to the story makes for an even better story. All in all this is a great game to play and I would recommend it to anyone I also really like the anime references they're nice👍

Im really loving this game, i just finish act 1 and at the start boss fights were pretty challenging especially the unique bosses. After little over midway of act 1 and getting a good set up down, fights comes much easier, almost to the point i wish had started on hard mode.

I do like that the progression is more gated. Usually in JRPGS you get a bit too strong for doing side activities that it trivialize the game

I will buy it based on this review. I was having a hard time choosing a JRPG, it has been years since I completed one. Was waiting for something promising, like this.

Just got this. It is pretty good so far. The main thing I have a problem with is the child like and goofy character portraits... It is odd to have a person who looks like a nickelodeon cartoon be a "soldier". Wish they went with portraits more like Suikoden.

How do you like this compared to Sea Of Stars? I love turned based tactical games, but have never played JRPGs before. I got Sea of stars and am really enjoying it, but i also bought Chained Echos the other day because it was on special and I heard a lot of good things about it. I thought it would be a nice follow up to Sea of Stars.

Old snes games like FF3, bof and Chrono trigger still hold up today.

While still not quite as good as some of the classics that inspired it (like Chrono Trigger & my personal favorite RPG of all time, FF6), this is definitely a must play title for the year. Probably my 2nd most enjoyed RPG of the year, bested only by Elden Ring, IMO. Almost my favorite indie this year as well, 2nd only to Tunic. Can't wait to see how Sea of Stars fares now!

Glad you enjoyed this as much as I did. It easily is one of the best JRPG's ever, as well as immediately becoming one of my favorite all time games. The combat systems, exploration, and writing.. oh the writing and story in this game man fucking had me hooked! Definitely heavy Berserk influence/inspiration, and that's not a bad thing. My one complaint is the upgrade system with the crystals. I think it's deep enough without being overly-complex. However the UI isn't very efficient and could be streamlined slightly. Outside of that, I have nothing but praise for this title.

I noticed the animations right away and this is the first time I am seeing gameplay. I too usually dislike this style but have started to realise recently how much good animations can carry it.

I'm just going to come out and say that there is no JRPG out there that is better than this one. It is on par with even the likes of Chrono Trigger (one of my favorites) but it's like it took that game and added elements to improve. The story is amazing, the game play is a lot of fun as well as engaging, and the music is out of this world. I haven't even finished the game yet but I know that the rest of it is going to be phenomenal. Every RPG lover out there should own this game. It blows away most AAA games out there.

Definitely a sleeper hit on Xbox GamePass. I cant put it down. The story gets WILD.

The ending was a bit disappointing because going into it I felt there was about another 10ish hours of gameplay left but besides that's its an absolutely wonderful game that makes me enjoy the turn based rpg aspect with the overdrive feature and I really hope this game gets the attention and the sequel it deserves
