The Brian Boggs shave horse always seemed liked a fun project to tackle. Lots of moving parts, unusual joinery, mechanical levers, springs, angled legs. There's no shortage of challenges involved in making one of these for your shop. It's incredibly rewarding to make and for some work holding needs, it's simply the best, and safest, tool for the job.
A shaving horse is basically a foot-operated clamp. The lower jaw supports the workpiece while the upper jaw presses down on it in response to foot pressure. This is an ideal arrangement for working with spokeshaves and drawknives because the harder you pull with the tool, the more pressure you naturally exert with your feet to maintain your balance. And the more pressure you exert with your feet, the more clamping force you exert on the workpiece.
Here are the plans that you can order directly from Brian Boggs:

Another good one. Greedily, I hope you channel grows so are inspired to keep making quality videos. Before you made one of these, did you shape your parts on bench vice? Where do you house your shave horse, when not in use?

Thanks for watching Bill. After the parts were cut out at the bandsaw, I used the router with the templates to get them just about perfect. The only thing I really needed to do after that was some minor cleanup with bench planes and a spoke shave for the curved areas. When not in use, it nests pretty well with my lathe and tucks out of the way. Another option is to bolt the rear legs, instead of gluing them, so they can be loosened and folded back when stored.
