The intro music took me back to when I was a child in the 90's, my older brother had some Steve Vai albums and this absolutely reminded me of some of the slower stuff. I generally play a Jazzmaster, a Gretsch hollowbody and a Rickie 12 string so I'm not very familiar with this type of guitar. However a year or so ago I saw a blue Kramer Baretta Special with matching headstock on eBay for a ridiculous price which i couldn't pass up. I put a Wilkinson steel bridge, Wilkinson machineheads, Highwood saddles and a JB which my friend gave me into it - it is a genuinely surprisingly fabulous guitar. I mostly play Misfits and Danzig and Jane's Addiction songs with it and am dead chuffed. Edit: typo

Well this is the best Fender I have had the pleasure to hear and see… not a massive fan of the worn styling but everything else is just epic love that….

Thanks, it's always good to hear a first opinion. I've almost pulled the trigger on a Friedman Vintage HSS that has a slight relic job for twice the price of these. The white one of these Charvels is very appealing, and the neck colour might suit a white finish better. Not sure if the pickup and switch configuration of this guitar is flexible enough to make it usable when some single coil sounds are required. I'm not really into buying guitars that somebody else has beaten up before me, but to paraphrase you guys and offer a different perspective, I'm not sure I can pull off showing up with a beautiful, immaculate Suhr or Anderson to play filthy hard rock and extreme metal.

I wonder how hard it would be to wire in a push/pull on the volume knob to split the coils?

I'm torn between this and an EVH 5150 standard!!! Love the kill switch... but also love nitro a lot :D

@@sirlost94 if I could have one of them I’d probably go for the Charvel…but that’s just my personal preference!! Seemed like a more substantial guitar to me…and I like the floating Floyd better

I always loved that headstock,on charvels. I know it's the same as fenders..but it just isn't on these guitars. It looks just geogous. Not sure if it's the logo or what.

Dude- sorry I'm always off topic when I comment on your videos- this is an amazing guitar, looks like it would be a blast to play with. But- my comment is actually about how when you buy one piece of gear it can, and often does, force you to upgrade another piece of gear. You and I had talked recently about using an amp sim with analogue pedals- like a UAFX pedal. So, I go buy the UAFX Lion 68- what c an of worms that opened up. It uses USB-C- so I had to buy a new PC with USB-C. Then, my old DAW won't install on this new system- so I bought a new DAW. But now- my phone won't pair with it because it's super old- gotta buy a new phone. Then- my monitors are really too small to express the low end properly and it's messing up the mix- new monitors. All because about 3-4 weeks ago I was like "I'm getting kind of bored with my MX5, think I'll try a UAFX pedal." UAFX drug me kicking and screaming into the present- after dropping about a G, I've arrived where everyone else was already at. Btu it had to happen eventually- I was still using windows 7 and had a flip phone.

Oh no…I know how you feel though…this can be one of those never ending rabbit holes! A similar thing happened to me a few years ago where I had to upgrade the OS on my computer to run a software update…but once I did that my computer was running super slow…so I thought “oh well I guess it’s time to buy a new computer” …then the new computer didn’t have a FireWire connection (it was a few years back) for my interface so I ended up getting a new interface too..all for a software update!!

I wish Charvel would update the same ol pick up combo. JB’s were fine in the 80’s/90’s but it’s 2024.

it looks cool, but you can buy the non relic version of this for $800 cheaper. So why buy this?

Heard many bad things about Floyd Rose trems that are so difficult to tune and change strings on….. how did you guys get on with it?

We only had the guitar for a short while so we didn't have to change the strings - it came setup really quite well and stayed in tune really quite well - except for when you do big pull-ups on the trem! I used to work in a music shop and I had to restring guitars with Floyds quite often...it's bit of a pain....but as long as you set it up for one particular gauge and even brand of strings and you always restring it with those strings then its fine and actually not that much of a pain to restring...but if you want to change string gauges or tunings...then its a massive pain...for me anyways!!

Absolutely not, once you know how to manage the string change and set up, they are so reliable and stay in tune. I have many floating and decked FR trems and they are great in my opinion.

I bought my first FR-equipped guitar in 1989 (Ibanez RG550) and traded it less than a year later...never had one since. Total pain in the ass.
