One of the Most Legendary Matches in Japan Volleyball History !!! The Japanese men's volleyball team, ranked 5th in the FIVB world rankings (before the start of the match), played their first match against Finland (ranked 28th), winning the opening match with a set score of 3-2 (25-17, 25-15, 25-27, 19-25, 15-12).
The men's tournament began in a packed venue. Japan was the one who got the momentum early on. Captain Ishikawa Yuki opened the match with a point, and after that, service aces from Ishikawa and Yamauchi Akira gave Japan a 7-4 lead. Finland tried to catch up, but Japan took control of the match with consecutive service aces from Ishikawa. Japan took the lead in the first set thanks to a service ace from Nishida Yuji and the efforts of substitute Miyaura Kento. Japan got off to a good start in the second set, carrying the momentum of the first set. Takahashi Ai skillfully hit the ball with his back, and in the middle of the match, Nishida scored a spectacular spike from Takahashi Ai's fake set, exciting the crowd.
Nishida continued to lead the attack with service aces and other efforts, and Japan won consecutive sets. In the third set, Takahashi Kentaro was used from the start, and he immediately scored a block. However, after making substitutions, Finland continued to score points with high blocks, and Japan allowed them to take the lead. There was a moment when the game was temporarily halted due to an accident, but thanks to good defense from Yamamoto Tomohiro, Japan scored three consecutive points and took the lead. However, as Japan began to make mistakes towards the end of the game, Finland showed their determination and took the set back. In the fourth set, Finland continued to attack with their serves, continuing the momentum of the third set.
Japan brought in Miyaura to try to change the flow. However, Finland's skillful tossing made it difficult for Japan to focus on their target, and Japan extended their lead to 15-20 with a service ace. Japan scored points from Ishikawa's serve and closed the gap to two points, but they were left behind in the final stages and the match went to the final set. In the fifth set, captain Ishikawa scored a spike at a key moment in a long rally, and Miyaura's serve broke the gap to extend the lead. Takahashi Ai's serve further reduced the gap to four points. Finland scored three consecutive points, including a block, to close the gap to one point, and Japan was forced to call a timeout. With one point behind, they replaced Ishikawa with Tatsunobu Otsuka. Despite struggling, Yamauchi's block tied the score, and they then scored consecutive points to turn the game around. In the end, they won with an attack from Nishida and a point from Ran Takahashi.
