'The Peanut Butter Solution' is a pretty creepy movie especially for kids. A boy goes into a dilapidated house and sees something so scary that he loses all his hair. A "witch" gives him a recipe to make a special solution to grow his hair back (peanut butter being the main ingredient because it sticks to his head). The boy uses too much and his hair grows way too fast...like a few feet every hour or so. Meanwhile, a deranged artist is kidnapping children, including the main protagonist, to make magic paintbrushes...yes, MAGIC paintbrushes using human hair.

I can relate to the running away concept as a lad. I threatened my parents about it once, and my mum showed concerned but my dad was like, "If you're really planning on leaving then I best help you on your journey. I'll help you pack, let's get your fancy clothes, and I'm going to give you 100 pounds so that you won't go hungry. Just remember once you run out of money...you're on your own!" I remember having everything he said in my bag as he and my mum gave me a hug and kiss saying that they're going to miss me while I was standing there outside of our flat. It was then when I realized I didn't want to runaway anymore...😂

Even in the midst of absence, it's state is never absolute; these words act as evidence. The wordsmith seeks, endlessly, for the calm and subtle between two exclamation marks and sometimes the thunder that only the imagination can brew. Yes, respite is merely an illusion, a sweet and fanciful notion that never materialises beyond the art that is everything that has ever been; art born of absence and nothing more. Yes, it reminds me of the following poem... Three times you tapped your cane against the door and heard only the absence of response. Was the moon full that night? I recall, with some clarity, the hoot of a perched owl and the scuttle of potential prey as your hand developed a temporary allergy to the wolf's silver head and... and then I remember being alone, no longer with myself, a hungry wanderer in a landscape of smoking chimneys and whispering shadows, woodlands and jagged hills... white shirt, black trousers; waistcoat the colour of night but...no shoes? Furred fingers reached for furred toes, then clawed digits touched fangs and, instead of a nose, they felt a short muzzle, clad in black velvet and utterly powerful... yes, I remember now; the moon WAS full that night, the night it mocked and discarded my evolution, heightened my senses and reduced civility to abomination. Gunfire and barking dogs... all in the wake of screams and a scarlet spray that tastes sweeter than any wine... on the flesh of two virgins I'd dine... but not before an animal lust was quenched. There's a headline under my nose this morning and it's held between two normal hands... it reads: SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY. A Carnivorous Cliche by Conal Cochran.

Yeah the creature designs, music and cinematography is all really memorable and well done. 5:45 oddly enough, I’m reasonably sure that the little brother actually died in Radio Flyer. I know it doesn’t say that... but if you read between the lines, it’s definitely there. For one, this is a story being told from a father to his sons about an uncle they’ve never met for some reason. And a big theme of the story is about the magic of being a child, when you thought anything was possible... like building an airplane to escape an abusive step-dad. And I could easily see a parent who understands the value and importance of letting children be kids not wanting to tell his kids the REAL story about what happened to their uncle. It’s easy to imagine him wanting to preserve his own children’s innocence for as long as humanly possible. Furthermore at the end the mom is just cool with her 7 year old son literally flying around the world with no one but a turtle to keep him company. Also there’s the fact that he never showed up again, even long after reaching adulthood. Watch the movie again with that perspective and I guarantee you’ll see it. And just like me, you’ll wonder how you missed it... then realized that’s kind of the point. A child isn’t going to catch on to something so bleak... but as an adult you are able to understand the subtext. Sorry for the rant... but I just saw that movie the other day and I was able to realize what actually happened.
@MsNotzi
@MsNotzi 3 жыл бұрын
That's a very plausible ending and it makes perfect sense...however, the child in me---as well as the happy ending loving part of me---would like to continue to believe he flew away on the wagon and lived his best life. Honestly though, I've heard that theory before. Like I said, it's definitely plausible.

Ah yes, the 80s. When killing kids was definitely in fashion. For me I think the most iconic one was in 'Maximum Overdrive' when that kid got run over by a steamroller. That actually was a pretty decent movie.

In 1988 I broke my leg in 8 places. I was bedridden for about a month. When I was finally about to leave my house my Dad took me to the mall. I was so happy to be outside I wanted to see a movie. The mall movie theater was showing "Spookies" so we got tickets and went in. Even on the heavy pain killers I was taking at the time I thought this movie sucked. That says a lot about this movie

One of the weirdest movies I remember watching a bit as a kid with my sister. Was Santa's Slay. Something about Santa actually being Satan's son that has been tied to a contract since he lost to god for 1000-years to be Santa. All I remember is a quote that I and my sister thought was the funniest shit. " Move bitch!"

The history of this movie is a troubled one, they had a slow beginning, they went over budget (if you can believe that) and over schedule, a new director and editor was brought in and changes made, so much so that much of what they originally shot was forever altered or lost on the cutting room floor and for whatever reason the title was changed from Twisted Souls to Spookies. Most likely to compete with Ghoulies and other infamous b-grade horror movies at the time. I'll give them this, the writers did come up with interesting ways to bump off the cast and the monsters are fairly original, when was the last time there was a spider demon in a movie or vicious lizard creatures trying to rip someone apart? The strangler beast has never been done before or since, rather Lovecraftian too. Great soundtrack as well to this cinematic mess!

The "behind the scenes" story is far more entertaining than the actual film. "The backer had a thing about bowel movements. He used to walk up to people and say, “Pull my finger,” and he would fart. At one time he wanted to call the movie Bowel Erupters." thedissolve.com/features/oral-history/788-the-strange-saga-of-spookies/
