this is just work, ATC (air traffic control) in Iraq, was one of my first PAR's.(precision approach radar) IT"S BORING UNLESS U UNDERSTAND THIS. SO WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!
U.S army system AN/TPN-31 this was in Mossul, Iraq 2009

As an air traffic controller, I think this video serves as a nice example of PAR approach control. Thanks for sharing.

Nice Video thanks for not adding the Cheesy Music! Great job I hope I never have to use a PAR in real life. I have practiced the PAR back in the early 70's today I have it easy, ILS, RNAV,VOR, and the beloved NDB. on rare occasions.

It's not boring I have always wanted to see PAR in action, there are very few videos on it. Oh and thanks for not adding any cheesy music.

I was in a C172 going into Yuma and received a PAR though requested a standard GPS approach. Pretty neat experience

usually 3 degree glide path, there is a rate in which they already know to follow but if they deviate we say going below or above glide path- they will correct (hopefully, lol) and then u up date with - below/ above glide path correcting slowly/rapidly or going further below/above glide path. once almost on glide path u can anticipate (practice makes perfect at this) and say on glide path, u don't want them near the safety limits as it will terminate the PAR, thanks for watching!

thanks man, it's a cool job once you get the hang of it. at first it might seem overwhelming but after a few weeks it's not so bad. keep in mind that this is tactical not facility (civilian). thanks for watching!

thanks bro, it was VFR weather so just training we did have a couple of bad sand storms and fog so we proved this system works! Rule the skies! lol

you're welcome, yes in real life scenario they are pretty scary. when I was a trainee in germany I saw a real PAR conducted. visibility was bad (Fog) the aircraft (B190) was at decision height and did not see the runway. pilot decided to go around. he was about to conduct missed approach procedures and then we saw the aircraft.... it flew right in front of out tower. that's the closest I have ever seen an aircraft from a tower ever... o yeah the NDB lol...I remember setting those beacons up

yikes, sounds like a lot of work!, but then again this stuff needs maintenance all the time! lol I actually like tower better I got my CTO and would like to stay tower as long as I could

I'm a civil flight instructor in Canada and wanted to know what a PAR approach looks like from the controllers side. Thanks for the upload! What is the phraseology you use to correct someones vertical path? Do you tell them to descend at a certain rate or ask them to be at a certain altitude in x seconds?

manasdotnine I'm in the Navy, about to graduate ATC school. On all of our PAR Sims we use, "Slightly below/above glide path, coming up/down slowly on glide path", etc to give the pilot an idea of his rate and position. I have not done a real one, so take this as you will from a student. I hope I graduate! Cheers!

Used to maintain GCA in the 70's NAS Miramar. Google up AN/CPN-4, AN/FPN-36 QUAD RADAR. We had two quads and an FPN-52 at Miramar, "brand new" in spring of '70. Can't find much about it, evidently same as FPN-16. Hell, we didn't even have a digi voltmeter when the gear was first installed, instead, a mirror scale old school voltmeter. It was a "big thang" to get the "new" digi readout voltmeter, LOL. The display units and most of the RADAR was vacuum tube stuff. It "almost" appears that the same trailer is still at Miramar, but I bet the gear is updated internally, LOL

lol yeah equipment changes very quickly in this field. I got to witness first hand when I was working in the tower in Wiesbaden Germany and they went from the old style spring button/switch to the 92v touch screen panel. what a change.

AN/FPN-36 issued in about 1950 This morfed into AN/FPN-40 issued 1953 Still in use at US ARMY Airfield Wiesbaden 2017
