Can't ask for a better AD. Former Illini athlete, smart legal mind, and knows how to hire coaches. Hope we can keep him around as long as possible

Nah. About to be on his third football coach. Failure in the most important aspect of being an AD.

@@claytongoeken5910 I'd expect someone to actually do their due diligence before hiring a lazy arrogant has-been like Lovie Smith.

@@claytongoeken5910 agree, IL football was DOA. Wasn't competitive in any Big ten game. The Lovie hire didn't go well, but Brett has been a better hire, The team is competitive now. There is a lot to build from (especially pro development). Men's BB was in a bad way, and Womens BB also. He has done an amazing job helping improve these programs. The girls and I went to the WBIT championship was an awesome experience they will never forget!

Always wanted to know how he got Brad from OSU when many thought he was off the market. Did Brad contact Josh about the position, or was Whitman just a good eye for talent and went hard to get Brad to Illinois?

More money for him, and a larger pot of money for assistants.

3:58. April 20. I would like to hear from Mike LaTulip about his Illini BB experience! He was such a great smart player from Mt.Prospect , but did not develop over 4,years. I’m not a fan of Underwood as he can’t develop players. Look at Coleman, Goode, Cockburn, others, and also his nepotism with hiring his son. My brother is a full professor and could not hire his son.

Football is a mess. No. There's no reason to get excited about that. It'll be a shock if we can even win 6 games and will likely win 3 or 4. Defense seems like it's gonna be GOD ATROCIOUS

I definitely think Bielema is the right guy but Whitman has a tough decision after football season if he wins 4 or less he should get fired.. simply because Whitman has gave him all the resources 5 wins major hot seat.. 6 and above all good!

People forget what state the FB program was in when BB was hired. BB has totally revolutionized the program, especially support staff behind the scenes. There isn't anything he doesn't know or know how to do. It is shortsighted to measure this program solely on a W/L record in a given year. And to say he should be fired . . . be careful what you ask for. That may topple the house of cards. Illinois athletics is perennially known as "Oh here we go again." Firing in this case is not the answer.

Whitman isn’t that shortsighted. The elevation Bielema has given this program should be celebrated

I agree this is big boy football now in the Big Ten. Bret needs to take a crap or get off the potty . This past season was incredible disappointing. 5-7,8-5, 5-7 is not going to cut it. If Bret wins 5 games or less this season he has to be on the hot seat. That will be 4 years and three losing season
