Just to be clear, Mihawk’s swordsmanship isn’t magic or Devil Fruit related, he’s just naturally skilled via training same with Kuro’s speed and Garp’s strength. Some abilities are just overly exaggerated.

fun fact all the dishes Sanji makes in this episode are all pulled from the official One Piece cookbook and are pretty much made exactly the same down to the ingredients (I've made them myself and man it's some good stuff). the actor for Sanji also did his own stunts and learned kick boxing AND took cooking classes so he could do all the stuff he does in the show (he also cooked for all the staff on set IN COSTUME no less), what an absolute boss.

In case you didn't pick up on it, Sanji smiled because he knew how zeff would react. He basically was just being a giant troll.

FYI - The hungry pirate that showed up at the restaurant was Gin. He was Don Krieg’s top fighter (the purple haired pirate with the shoulder canon). When Gin talks about his entire pirate Armada getting wiped out, he’s referring to the earlier fight we saw with Mihawk. Mihawk destroyed the whole fleet.

Dracule Myhawk is literally the best swordsman in the world, the objective Zoro want's to beat. Also, by him killing the pirate Don Krieg they literally skipped a lot of episodes and no one misses it because everyone hates Don Krieg.

13:08 The thing about the "Treasure Tab" is that Luffy had that with Makino (Green haired woman in his childhood flashbacks) She owned the bar Shanks visited and would always feed him and was like a mother/older sister to him. After every meal he would say to put it on his Treasure Tab that he would get from the One Piece. Makino obviously just didn't mind taking care of him and would always agree to it.

They gave Garp the Hawaiian shirt not to make him look young but because he is actually wearing the same Hawaiian shirt in the anime and manga. every outfit that is in this show Oda has drawn it at some point.

I think it's strange they didn't tell you that it was _Mihawk_ that sunk those 50 ships. Krieg was the captain of that fleet in the anime/manga and Gin was his second in command.

Garp is pretty high up in the military and has a lot of work to do so that’s probably why he wasn’t around much to take care of Luffy. He just went back for holidays hence the Hawaiian shirt 😂

Mihawk grew to respect Zoro during their fight. He at first saw him as nothing, just some punk kid who thinks he can earn bragging right by fighting him. But the moment he looked in Zoro's eyes, he could see the conviction. The surprised "why don't you retreat?" was a tell. Normally that's where everyone chickens out and flees, shit got real. But Zoro stayed and kept fighting. When Zoro takes the loss with honor and respect, letting Mihawk cut him down, sealed it. Mihawk respects heart and honor, so he let Zoro live and encouraged him to get stronger. If Zoro's willpower is strong enough, he could truly give Mihawk a hell of a fight later on down the line.

Mihawk is not a devil fruit user He's just really strong

Aw, sad you cut the line "don't let some stubborn old man get in the way of your dreams." That line had extra meaning for Luffy. Also when Luffy brags to Zeff about Sanji feeding Ghin, you were in the middle of panicking so you missed that Zeff says "He did that did he? What a good kid."

Since long ago, Garp could be promoted to be an admiral, but every time the offer was made to him he rejected it. For him being an admiral means sell his soul, because he would have to do things the way his higher ups want, no matter what.

Just a little info about Don Krieg, in the manga he was the actual big boss fight at the Baratie with Luffy, and the man Sanji fed in the show, Gin, was one of his men (and he was ruthless in the manga, Sanji's kindness made him disobey orders from the captain for the first time). As a Sanji fan i'm a bit disappointed they cut a lot of the Baratie original story cause it showed so much more of his character. That Mihawk intro was cool though.

At first I was at odds on characters being left out or put as cameo or sidelines, but this helps with streaming TV narrative. Kudos on Taz's performance as Sanji and the fight between Zoro and Mihawk was well performed. So glad season two is happening. The next saga and arcs they are gonna adapt are really fascinating and cant wait for the new characters coming. 🎉🎉🎉

Mihawk was a great peak into the power dynamics in One Piece and just how strong and dangerous this world is. Its best to say as they go on further into this world, they meet a lot of other people just as strong and even much stronger. So its gonna be great to see each straw hat grow stronger too in the LA.

Zoro made a new promise, as some people don't seem to realize. He will keep the first promise to Kuina of course, but he also made a new promise to Luffy; "I will never lose again" - which shows how serious he is about the first promise, that he makes a second one! (also, super late, but congrats about the wedding stuff)

Season 2 confirmed and went to check on wikipedia...two weeks after the series is released and confirmed for next season, production is now greenlit.. Also, what they have shown on mihawk is just a taste on whats to come...they only showed here that the straw hats have a long long ways to go...pointing it out...in the world of one piece, every people can learn to fight and gain skills and abilities with or without eating devil fruits...

Time to dine on the magnificent ocean restaurant the Baratie, as well as one of the best sets in the season. In that we also meet Sanji, the kicking flirty cook who only uses his hands for cooking (and kissing ladies' hands) and will always feed the hungry. The Garp reveal also adds to the conflict between him and Zeff, the head chef (and in the manga his hat is even bigger), since Luffy sees it similar to his relationship with Garp. Sanji as a character is a little toned down from the original, mainly his very strong adoration of women which has often gone past the point of creepy at times, in the live action they make it more that he tries to overcompensate with flirting compared to moments where Sanji would literally let a woman walk on him with razor heels if it meant she would even smile at him. There's also the loss of his twirly eyebrows and a reduction to his smoking habit (which 4Kids infamously replaced with a lollipop in the anime). The arc is interesting in how it's 'different but the same', the same beats are there but most of the end goal is still there. A fairly sizeable omission comes in the form of the two characters Johnny and Yosaku, the crew accidentally shoot a cannon where they were hiding, with Yosaku suffering from scurvy, it's discovered that they are bounty hunters who saw Zoro as a big brother type so they get along with the crew despite starting hostile. The manner of Luffy becoming the chore boy for the restaurant differs too, with the original having Luffy slingshot himself accidentally into Zeff's quarters, damaging the Baratie, he also believes he snapped off Zeff's leg which was funny, but Luffy is a horrible chore boy; eating food, smashing plates, picking his nose while serving his crew, true health and safety nightmare. Sanji's introduction meanwhile is a little similar, he does beat up the pink haired Marine (named Fullbody, he is the marine Django befriends in his cover story post-Syrup village, being the female marine captain's lackeys who dote on her) but no pirate, Fullbody attempts to simply disparage Sanji by putting a bug in his soup, all because Sanji corrected him. Don Krieg is another big change, because while the guy Sanji feeds does arrive first (his name is Gin), he was turned away first by the restaurant, when fed he brings his captain, Don Krieg, and his surviving crewmates who dealt with Mihawk attacking them. Krieg however uses the hospitality to force the Baratie to feed his crew, and seeks Zeff's captain's log detailing journeys across the Grand Line. This is where 'Hawk Eyes' Dracule Mihawk, the strongest swordsman in the world and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (pirates who are given free reign so long as they respond to government summons, much like privateers) under nobody's behest or mission, comes in his single-casket boat to cut Krieg's ship in half for being 'in the way'. Zoro challenges Mihawk, going mostly how it did in the show fight-wise, but Nami is not there, she feigned undressing to get Johnny and Yosaku to turn their backs, and pushed them off the Merry and sailed away with the ship, having seen something she didn't quite like beforehand. With Zoro scarred but spared by Mihawk, Sanji fights Krieg's men, starting with Pearl the shield (who you can see in the background on one scene) until Gin steps in to fight, the 'Man Demon' actually bests Sanji in battle with his iron tonfa, but although he is loyal to Krieg he cannot bring himself to kill the man that saved him. Luffy then fights Krieg and his arsenal of tricks, including poison gas - of which Gin relinquishes his mask to give to Luffy, Luffy defeats Krieg by driving him headfirst into what remains of his ship's floor but Krieg does get up reluctant to admit his defeat, so Gin knocks him out and escorts his captain and crew away from the Baratie, we never hear from them again.

Garp, mihawk, shank's not devil fruit user. They have their own ability, which is so many people in their world have strong ability and not eat the fruit. Do luffy know about how strong his grandpa? He know, in manga and anime he not allowing his crew to fight garp cuz he too powerful. The hungry guy that come to baratie is don creg crew. So its mihawk destroy his massive pirate crew &ship 😂 The fight between zoro and mihawk is remainder for zoro how strong he is now and it's not enough to be strongest

When Zoro says "Wounds on the back are a swordsman greatest shame," He is talking about both the person who has the wound, and the one who gave him the wound. So turning to face Mihawk, means Mihawk didn't have to attack him from behind. It's part of the reason Mihawk let Zoro live and let Luffy go. "And when I'm done with you, I'll take your captain." - Mihawk. He didn't take Luffy implying Mihawk isn't done with Zoro as the duel is basically on hold. There is so much said between Mihawk and Zoro without explicitly saying it. We get a bit of internal dialogue in the manga, but a lot of what is said between them is for people who have studied swordsmanship, martial arts or their history. Japan had an incredibly long history of a Martial Culture that endured into the 20th century. A Japanese audience would have more general knowledge or exposure related to the topics than say an American audience.

That outfit isnt to show Garp younger. In the Manga he is always shown in that style when not on duty. His apperance from then to now simply hasnt changed. Also, trying to compare this world to outrs will cause more confusion than cohesion.

Don Krieg in the anime & manga was actually the next threat for Luffy to face, but he was considered to be the weakest part of the story of the East Blue, so with this adaptation, they made him essentially fotter for Mihawk just to get him over & done with. I personally love Don Krieg, but I get that it would have slowed the pacing down. I just love all his wacky inventions & weapons. I also loved how he was a threat because he came from the Grand Line as a sort of warning of how dangerous it was. He failed to be a pirate & decided to reign over the East Blue instead. But here they fully went with him failing as in he died in the Grand Line.

One line from the anime I wish they would have added was when zoro charges Mihawk. Mihawk yells to zoro, “you have no idea how big the world is” and then blocks zoro. I think it is a perfect line along with the fight to show the power scale in this world is massive. And in the current manga idk if zoro is strong enough to beat Mihawk yet. Mihawk is that strong.

Tney werent trying to make garp look younger with the clothes , it's what he wore in the anime, it is to project the casual relationship with luffy as his grandad , and not as a marine figure. Clothes also take part in narrating a story.

"Bounty Cancelled" but not only Mihawk: he is the one of "Royal Seven Warlords of the Sea" In this Baratie's arc the next opponent of Luffy was Don Krieg, but clearly cut due to the budget and episodes (from 10 to 8) shame because we can see that the costumes was already done and ready, he still an iconic east blue saga villain and many japanese audience was disappointed for the short appearance :E
