In this video I fabricate a one piece flip open front clip on my 1984 Chevy Squarebody C10. This idea was inspired by the 55 Chevy from the movie " Two Lane Blacktop". It is all custom fabbed by me with all the original sheet metal from the truck.

73 now but as a kid, bought a 56 ford pickup from a man who was my age now then. He told me that he wanted it to go to someone who would appreciate it. I did, I got it out of a shed ready to fall on it and never even knew it existed before that day.,.. fuel pump had dried out so swapped it in a hurry and throwed some fuel to the carb and it was running great. It was just so cool cause when it lived in california, it got a custom flip front end on it. I never had sense to see just all the workings on it but remember it having some hood shocks like you see on the tailgates on a station wagon or similar suv thing. I drove the wheels off of it and parked it in my garage while working in alaska in the southeast in logging camps as a truck driver to start but when I showed the signs of being a hand in the shop....... long story short, it was a whole new career that kept my different families fed. Guys who work for logging camps just don't seem to find a woman who can wait for you to come home. I got drafted at eighteen and went to nam in 66/67 spring. I came home in 69 to find my truck gone, sold by a ex wife who just lived for hurting me as she well knew how to do. Always wanted to build another one but time got away from me with so many different things that get in the way of having fun. I had started to build a older model international truck and have the flip front end as I always thought that they were the best way to get under the hood. Can you imagine a flip hood on say the 95 F350 trucks with a 7.3? It was on my short list to do and then got too crippled up to keep doing what I loved so very much. I was quite impressed with you repurposing a hood hing for this front end. I worked on heavy equipment and did the tilt front ends on our off highway trucks like your highway conventionals. The big thing there is it is super heavy metals, and I used air hoists on the frontends.... hoists... I meant cylinders. I did the first one on a truck that had been banged up an truly needed a new set of fenders and such but here in alaska, parts are what you can repurpose. I just found you, watched it all in the interest to see it work and seen a job well done. There is no shortage of the chevys out there in wrecking yards and hoarders who seemed to think they needed all of them. I look at it a bit different. By the time the seventies started, most folks were into buying a new truck about every three years, then as time went by, you saw folks put a ton of miles on rigs each year so the traded back every year. Most are rust buckets as metals were not well protected and so they went from the place traded in at and over priced to where you just paid them back for your trade in moneys. I see a lot of better lasting rigs landed in dry states, texas, california, southern states with little to no salts on their roads. I was foolish with money. I have lived in alaska continuously since 84 and last divorce... only married twice and that was enough to sour me on paying some woman to live with her boyfriend and eat off of my work. I did raise all of my kids, never questioned whether they were mine, just loved them and got them though colleges or trade schools. If I was ever to have to raise another kid, no dang colleges, trade schools or OJT. On the job learning is twice the schoolbooks and if your motivated, work for yourself. No dang boss ruining your whole day or year. When my oldest boy come down with cancer meant me living in a large town near hospitals. I found myself earning three times as much money working for myself and never looked back after 88. Of course stupidity got me crippled as I was a big man and stout as hickory so when a man fell from his roof, me standing where he fell, I caught him and set him down, passed out and woke up in a hospital three months later, just a mouse of a man I was. My spine was crushed and my neck was broken as well. So 2005 didn't end well and by the year of 2010 knew I would never walk again, could just barely get around on crutches so just finally gave up when the medication was affecting my memory so bad, not remembering what I was doing say only ten minutes before. I gave away to my grandson a whole complete shop full of tools.... this part maybe you can relate to. I had a good hundred thousand dollars worth of nice snap on tools as well as other name brands. speciality tools that cost you a ton and then my other tools I made to fit different jobs. Tool boxes that cost twenty thousand apiece as snap on loves their stuff real well. I would not ever buy a tool of theirs again unless they were the only tool maker and needed it that bad. There are a lot of tool makers that started out cheap junk but time and their pocket books grew and they put out good tools eventually plus when you see that there are no real true brands anymore, just a parent company who makes all of them and sells off makes or bad tooling stuff ... but even the cheaper tools have went up in quality. I had bought those expensive boxes because my customer sees that and figures you must be good if you own them. Not so much truth in that anymore. As I was saying ... gave the tools to my grandson rather than get say a nickel on the dollar for good tools as they pick your bones. That was what I referred to as you may relate to not selling for a loss on stuff. I gave you the like, hit the subscribe button plus notification bell. I will share your videos to others that are in this same game as thats how other guys get their plans from. Oddly electric cars came before the fuel cars and trucks. I was completely taken by that as I do not enjoy being shoved into a electric rig. Sure they are powerful and fast but say the six you have in your truck right now just waiting to come out for whatever your going to power it with..... everyone seems hooked on the LS engines. I think it was powernation that used twin turbos on six cylinder engines and came up with some insane power plants that do stay together plus torque like say a big block has. When I see a engine, a six cylinder pushing over six hundred horses and eight hundred pounds of torque... you can quit trying to sell me anymore, just show me the turbo selections. Plus they are street drivable. Oh, they also fit under the hood for another win. I had my share of hotrods with a bug catcher in the middle of the hood. Five miles to the gallon.. forget that, some were so many feet to the gallon and still could not drive it on the road. I went to nam and other than one fellow who bought as many of my rigs as he could afford to, got in touch with me as soon as I got home. Told me they were drove from where he bought them and then stuffed in the barn. Showed me his receipts for his money involved and said just pay him back. I have worked all of my life as when I still could and made way too much money so bought toys that were fun to own but just never got to enjoy. Yeah, I would now looking back do a lot of things different... making hindsight 20/20 a real thing. Well I wrote ya a book and never really said anything important. For what its worth I hope I didn't bore ya to death as reading this and working would equat to a complete dent removal on the hood instead of wasting time here reading my junk.

Thanks for the story. Sounds like you have led a very interesting life. Yes I can relate to a lot of those things. The in-line 6 is staying in the truck, that has been the plan all along and I have a ton of upgrades to make it better. Thank you for watching the video and subscribing. I appreciate the support.

It’s surprising how you can figure out ways to get things done by yourself that should be a multi person job when you don’t have a choice.
