I went back to a dumpsite I've been to before, and then went looking for another. A nice autumn day, a little bit grey, but came home tired and happy with the things that I found.

07:34 I pine for more than just a vicarious connection to all the British mudlarkers I've been following. Belonging is an essential part of being human, & there's been a dearth of that in my life. I've mostly made my peace with that, being now a senior citizen, but there are still very poignant moments, such as your description of the friend you've yet to meet, Amanda Bell.

I think so too. I'm hoping I can make a replacement for what's lost with resin, and hopefully I can find a dye that will match the colour. I've got a cap for it, I found it at that dumpsite the time I visited before, and it fits perfectly... so perfectly it might even be from that bottle! 🙂

Tom, my wife and I thoroughly enjoy your videos and particularly your commentary and wonderful dry humour! We are trawling through all your videos which, along with those from the Northern Mudlarks and Kit & Caboodle, give us hours of enjoyment. You certainly live in a superb part of England. As you wade through those beautiful rivers we think you may benefit from the acquisition of some waders thereby eliminating the risk of flooding your ''gummies'', Australian term. Your collecting of trash from the rivers deserves recognition.

I have a map in my head of some great looking burls and oddities of wood... that one day I hope to get. Including a real beauty that would be very difficult to get out, but would be so stunning: A tree was growing on a flat rock, and it fell, revealing a 15ft wide sunset like spread of roots, perfectly flat. I'd love to get it before it rots away; it would make such a cool wall decoration... but I'd need a big truck and a studio space to sand it down in. Maybe that'll happen one day. 🙂

Tom, Your river(brook) walk brought back memories of the brook(North Branch of the Metedeconk River) which delineated the eastern edge of our 27 acre farm. It had a warm dark color created by it's Iron rich water , and in the late forties and fifties was home to fresh water clams and other creatures which eventually disappeared due to pollution from large housing developments which changed the rural farm nature of our township. In my neighbors farm field , full of wild strawberries, I found a very large box turtle in 1960. On it's underside was carved, Lt. Opey Y co 189?. I never researched the name, perhaps someone from the Spanish American war? I almost brought it home but I didn't, It deserved to be left in peace. It was amazingly old then and I don't suppose it survived long enough to feel the encroachment of "civilization". Your walks show the cycle of life, rural to industrial and back again, but wonder if you ever encounter wildlife along your paths. Cheers, Rik Spector

Being designated essential not because we see the terribly sick but because of what we do for the people who care for them. I have just recently discovered your channel and I admire it. The combination of cleanup (something I do myself at the rhine river), mudlarking and handcrafting is very entertaining and I enjoy the way you narrate the video. It keeps me engaged and gives me feeling of participation in the situation. I also do find your dumbsites very rich. During my cleanups I find heaps of modern garbage and find it amazing if I discover a bottle stopper or even a plastic shampoo bottle from 1955. Gives me a little envy for your locations.

Looks like home in the Pacific Northwest. I will dream about the globe vase you didn't take. I am fascinated with that shape. Your return to that site will be fascinating. Thank you for taking all if us along.

Wonderful hunt. I really enjoyed your ramble. The uranium glass art deco flask is the coolest find. Thanks for sharing!

Sitting quarantined and recovering from surgery in Tampa, Florida, I'm enjoying "getting out" on mudlarking adventures along with you and a few others. You mentioned Amanda Bell, does she also have a KZfaq channel? I live that all the mudlarkers I follow put their own personality and enthusiasm into their searches....I can always enjoy more people to follow. Thanks for the enchanting views and sharing your knowledge. Stay safe! The pandemic won't last forever.

37:47 I think you should do you! Try not to compare yourself to others. If you genuinely like the style that the other KZfaqr did with his bathroom than do it. Just make sure you love what you create because it comes from you! Love your videos! 🙂

Thank you Tom for a lovely meander along the river, it's so lovely to change the scenery. Your narration really adds to the flow of the video. At one point your hushed tones seemed to become quite like David Bellamy through the undergrowth. Ha ha. Shame you don't have a pack horse to carry your load. Love those wee bottles though, irresistible.

03:08 The need to go slower suits me well. I find it easier to 'comb' simultaneously with you. I've experienced a bit of vertigo while watching some other mudlarking videos, as the camera swings or moves a little too fast.

I’ve been seeing so many fallen uprooted trees lately on my riverside walks as well. And lots of flood erosion. In our cases with climate change we get many more tropical systems that come up from the gulf and reach very far inland to our deciduous forests in Georgia. This year there were many storms which feed off the heat in an ever warming climate.

Beautiful footage of the water and your adventures Tom, lots of lovely bottles and treasures. The colours of Autumn in contrast to the vegetation that is still green is stunning. Some nice china treasures amongst the bottles too -would love to search an area like this with you! Beautiful views of the snow on the hills from your window too.

Hello Tom, Great video, some lovely bottle finds. That rusted ring is a gas ring. You used to attatch it to a rubber hose and run it off one of those big Calor gas bottles. You used to see road workers using them sometimes for a brew. The object with the five holes in it, reminds me of the chimney off a greenhouse paraffin heater. The sprinkle of snow on the hillside really sets it off, it's a perfect picture from your window. Thank you for the mention, I am pleased you got them and you are most welcome. One last thing, Merry Christmas...🎅👍👍

Hi Eddie, and thanks for the identifications. I'm pretty sure you're right on the greenhouse paraffin heater chimney, you're the second one to suggest it. I'm glad for confirmation on the gas ring too, I'll still hit it with a hammer sometime to separate the brass out of it. 🙂 Thanks again for the rotary burrs, and a very Merry Christmas to you too. 🎅

Cool Tom. Thanks so much for the beautiful trip and your cool finds shared on this video. I’ve been watching 3 other channels from Yorkshire for a couple years now. An equestrian in North Yorkshire, an archeologist who finds ancient fossils on the coast and a hiker. All 4 of you share gorgeous countryside that I knew nothing about just a few years ago. You’re fortunate to live in that part of the world and we’re fortunate that you share it with us.

Thanks Linda, 🙂 I'm looking forward to being able to go further and further afield again, hopefully next year... there's so much beauty within a short drive of here and I'm glad to be able to share it. 🙂 Maybe a trip to the North Yorkshire Coast next year too... film some Fossil hunting, and I'd love to do some longer hikes. 🙂
