Hospital Construction

4 жыл бұрын

Week 3 in the ongoing Ⓢ series, which follows the construction of a new 13-story senior living building in San Francisco. This is a #construction #timelapse with various closeups and "sub-time-lapses" at various speeds, condensing the week of February 17 - 22, 2020, into about 29 minutes.
This week there's a lot of rebar, a lot of trucks, a #concrete pour, and various odds and ends from both the construction and the local neighborhood. All set to a hodgepodge of various music tracks (that inevitably half the viewers will complain about, lol).
Music licensed from Audio Network (in chronological order):
Urban Chase - Raithe Laurence (2914/4)
Lonesome Heart Swing - Dennis Caplinger (1070/4)
Big Boys - (2916/2)
Swinging Doors - Jeremy Sherman (1092/13)
Keep On Running - Kevin Browne (1399/7)
Hank's Honky Tonk - Jeremy Sherman (1623/8)
Yo Bug Out - Andy Cooper (3059/9)
In Your Skin 2 - Julian Emery, Adam Noble (3201/78)
In Your Skin - Julian Emery, Adam Noble (3201/8)
Rocket Launch - George Georgia, Linden Jay Berelowitz (3204/1)
New York Nights - Barrie Gledden, Steve Dymond, Jason Pedder (1506/4)
Never Forget - Gareth Johnson, Chris Bussey (2832/3)
Of course you're always welcome to listen to your own playlist instead if you prefer (there's no dialog in the video).

I've slipped back in time from 40 weeks in the future. So much has changed since this video. The world is a vastly different place now, in so many ways. I must say, after so many weeks you take the tower crane for granted. It's good to see its humble beginnings again. Took me a few minutes to realize the purpose of the little stub feet at the base of the tower legs. With that realization, I now appreciate the strength of the base structure. Thank you HC for all the hard work you do, you make the world a bit more bearable. Ok, back to the future......

Actually, it's fairly standard amount of rebar for California. You Kiwis are using a lot more after your recent quakes. Our codes get updated about every 20 years due ever-bigger quakes. I finally think they are strong enough - I did a lot of seismic retrofit work on freeway overpasses/bridges and the foundations were scary - when we were done they looked skookum for the most part.

They created the same patterns on the lower floors in the hospital and medical office building earlier on this channel. In the inside tour of the hospital the guide explained that they had put a rougher texture on the floors that would be used for parking. I suspect that's what you are seeing.

there was a shot where a guy was actually standing under the rebar so i'm guessing the pour it 6-7 foot deep, those tower crane bases are 8' by 8' i believe. looks like it would need around 7 of them to span the width and i'm guessing it's a square so roughly a 56'x56'x6.5' pour, 20,400ish cubic feet or around 750 yards of concrete. around 3 million pounds. 120,000 thousand dollars worth of just concrete.

just to give some perspective on that foundation, the slab i poured to service heavy equipment is 4" thick with one course of 1/2" rebar.... This foundation has many tons of rebar in a 10 foot thick slab, i cant think of one thing on earth that would need that much support, nothing is heavy enough to warrant that much steel and concrete
@ryanksiazek
@ryanksiazek 3 жыл бұрын
Tower crane, they have a whole lot of overturn. The rebar and slab act to create a monolithic base anchor to keep the crane from falling over.
@ryanksiazek
@ryanksiazek 3 жыл бұрын
In addition this foundation is probably going to do double duty. It will act as the anchor foundation for the crane and act as the foundation of the building while under construction. When the construction work is done it will have way more capacity than required for the building weight and the crane will be gone.
