Hospital Construction

Күн бұрын

Week 15 in the ongoing Ⓢ series, which follows the construction of a new 13-story senior living building in San Francisco. This is a #construction #timelapse with various closeups and "sub-time-lapses" at various speeds, condensing the week of May 11 - 16, 2020, into about 43 minutes.
There are no "dad jokes" in this week's episode, but there is a fair amount of rain (at least for San Francisco, which doesn't get much rain).
00:00 - Mon (rebar, stairs, pump pipes, forms, rain)
06:45 - Tue (water barrier, rebar)
12:43 - Wed (crane, rebar, forms, water barrier, rain)
21:00 - Thu (rebar, electrical, rain)
29:21 - Fri (shotcrete, concrete)
35:56 - Sat (rebar, cleaning)
42:21 - Closing, previews
Music licensed from Audio Network, listed below in chronological order. I inadvertently used a couple of the tracks twice, but I noticed it kind of late in the process and didn't want to spend the time to change it, and it actually seemed okay to repeat them. So, we'll just pretend that I meant to do that.
Monday:
Stop The Clock 2 - Jake Shillingford, Nicholas Evans (2939/44)
Supercars 2 - Paddy Conn, Angelina Dove (3170/56)
Tuesday:
Under The Cold Light Of The Moon 2 - Geoff Rana, Paul Lani, Adam Alexander (3163/20)
Wednesday:
Stop The Clock 2 - Jake Shillingford, Nicholas Evans (2939/44)
Just Reach For The Sky 2 - Julian Emery, Cenzo Townshend (3366/19)
Thursday:
Ocean Boulevard - Adam Drake, Tom Jenkins (3246/3)
Sail On Through 2 - Miriam Speyer, Lincoln Grounds, Thomm Jutz (3101/43)
Friday:
Flying Like A Bird 2 - Paddy Conn, Angelina Dove (3170/93)
Constant Changes 2 - Thomas Evans, Troy Matthews (3360/64)
Saturday:
Supercars 2 - Paddy Conn, Angelina Dove (3170/56)
Find Your Freedom 2 - Bob Bradley, Matt Sanchez, Steve Dymond (2689/78)
As usual, you're always welcome to listen to your own playlist instead if you prefer (there's no dialog in the video).

Hello H C, another fascinating and busy busy video. Lots more Rebar delivered and laid in no time. It's great to watch the guys fixing the rebar so nimble and quick. All done in what seemed to be a week of shot sharp rain showers. Thanks for sharing and all at H C and on site continue to stay safe 😷

The sparky contractor should invest in some cordless rebar tiers. Highly recommended, a great timesaver. The rod busters with their Klein spools are masters of tying but not so much a Sparky. 😊 (IBEW ret.)

Nice vedio. I did not like the electrical conduites laying, it seems to be randomly laied and fixed, may be because they are using a flexible conduites. Here in Oman we are using rigid ones mostly.

Question from the Netherlands, why did you dispose concrete in wallform, and why spray you some walls with concrete?? I understand That its easier that the walls on the outsite of the basement will be sprayed, but this week i see on the leftsite, they spray walls inside of the building. Why??

Hi from Australia. You guys in America do not believe in safety working without scaffolding when trying steel and also in the rain it's a slip hazard and a health hazard. Here in Australia we have scaffolding when we tie steel in walls and stop working when it rains.

Just TOO Much Rebar, My opinon, Is Ca and SF going to have enough rebar for this project ? Question, How long does it take the crane operator to Get down after work ?
@CliveMunz
@CliveMunz 4 жыл бұрын
SF is built on a fault line and is largely glacial silt, the building is engineered explicitly so to ensure no dead people in a large earthquake.

If you think this is excessive you should see the requirements on any hospital project in California. I swear there was 50 pounds of unistrut and cable support for a 5 pound fart fan in some of the hospital work I did.

@TyphoonVstrom 3 жыл бұрын
@@newsnowfresno6873 Very true. Hospitals aren't one of those things you want failing in natural disasters. The near destruction of the Olive View medical centre (in the '71 San Fernando quake), weeks after it was officially opened drove most of those requirements.

They drop to spread the load over an extra set of wheels. American design I guess.
@HospitalConstruction
@HospitalConstruction 4 жыл бұрын
Both the state of California and the Federal government have regulations that specify the maximum amount of weight on each axle. If they're carrying above a certain weight, they can lower the additional axle and spread the weight across more axles, making it legal to drive with the additional weight.
@Bill_N_ATX
@Bill_N_ATX 4 жыл бұрын
Hospital Construction, it also helps with weight restricted roads. While your average highway is built to take the weight of a ready delivery concrete truck, your secondary and neighborhood roads and bridges aren’t. Finally, it helps if you are on a site that has less than stellar access. Every bit helps on those, although not nearly as big a deal as it used to be since a lot of concrete is pumped these days as opposed to the old days when it was tailgated (often using wheelbarrows) into place. Pumps save a bunch of laborers.
@timothybarney7257
@timothybarney7257 4 жыл бұрын
@@HospitalConstruction California's max axle weight limits are also lower than most of the rest of the country (except possibly Michigan). That said, those tag axles are pretty standard on probably a lot of the concrete trucks in the US. I don't actually remember the last time I saw one without.

The amount of rebar seems excessive, does anyone know if this normal or is it because its a hospital and or being in a earthquake zone ?
@xX1GuNNy1Xx
@xX1GuNNy1Xx 4 жыл бұрын
pretty standard. think this is the foundation that the successive levels will be built on top of. he says its a 13 story building and they are on level 2 right now, so all that will need to hold 11 more levels above it.
@tutekohe1361
@tutekohe1361 4 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that the central lift (elevator for American viewers) shaft, which also contains the emergency stairwell, is designed to be the strongest part or spine of the building, so in a cataclysmic event it would still be possible to escape the building - and for emergency services to gain access, hence the seeming overkill on the rebar there.
@tutekohe1361
@tutekohe1361 4 жыл бұрын
Also, while San Francisco is in an Earthquake zone, this building is not a hospital, it is a ‘Senior Living Centre’, although I guess they are in just as much need of a secure building as a Hospital!

The amount of steel in the walls is heavy because mostly it was designed as a Special Concrete Shear Wall to resist the earthquake lateral forces (moments, shear, and may be torsion).
@Bill_N_ATX
@Bill_N_ATX 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. In addition, this is built on eluvial land. In other words, it’s sedimentary land mostly made of sand and clay that is layered upon the bedrock. I looked at the geological maps for the area and it doesn’t appear to be fill. A surprising amount of San Francisco is fill added in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Without regard, such land can still liquify and shake like jello in certain kinds of earthquakes. (This is what made the Mexico City earthquake so bad.) So you add a shit load of steel in certain structural members to strengthen the building.

May be to reduce the cost by discarding all the formwork.
@Bill_N_ATX
@Bill_N_ATX 4 жыл бұрын
It’s mostly about not having to deal with formwork. If you don’t have to meet a high structural strength, in other words just putting up a wall and aren’t trying to provide a lot of compressive, vertical, or shear strength, it’s a lot quicker. With a good mix, and now days throwing in fibers, you can get a strong wall without spending an extra day or two putting up form work and then a day taking it down.
@peon9282
@peon9282 4 жыл бұрын
William Wheeler Or just use system Formwork (Peri, Doka etc.) instead of wooden forms. I‘ve never ever seen anyone using shotcrete for walls, even for the side walls you could use single-sided formwork.

Gary Jarvis - neatness does have its place but inside a poured in place parking structure is not one of those places. That flexible plastic conduit allows for gentle wire pulling sweeps and is easily positioned to avoid other trades’ items and when properly anchored to rebar will withstand the concrete pour and the boots of the finishers. I’ve done rigid heavy wall conduit and that same flexible plastic conduit in dual curtain concrete pours and the time saved using the plastic, which delivers just as good a wire pathway, saves an amazing amount of time, material expense and labor. When we start seeing vertical runs of conduit I guarantee they will be true and straight.
