In this special video, I'm sharing my one-year recovery journey after ankle fusion surgery.
I'm excited to update you on my progress, from the initial struggles to a positive outcome.
🏔️This video covers the historical that led me to chronic pains from post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the upper ankle, my preparation, the surgery itself, and the initial 12 months of recovery.
It's a story of overcoming challenges and finding strength in the process.
💪 Discover the ups and downs of my post-surgery phase, the role of physiotherapy, walking and cycling activities on my rehabilitation.
🚴 A New Chapter Begins
As we mark the one-year milestone, we conclude the formal rehabilitation phase.
And we finish this with reflections on my current abilities, both in walking and cycling, and with optimism for the future.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.

Thank you! Thank you for telling your story. Like you I suffered an accident on a mountain where I dislocated my right ankle. That was 5 years ago. Multiple surgeries later and I had my fusion just under a year ago and unlike you my recovery hasn’t been as good as I am in chronic pain daily. I cannot walk without the boot and I struggle to do anything including sitting at a desk. It is so good watching a success story and what you are able to do now post-op as that is always scary. Many a dark thought has gone through my head and even today I have sad moments and happy moments. I know everyone is different and I know I have the best surgeon looking after me and I can only hope to get even 20% of what you are able to do back. But your story is inspiring and will help drive me on once the next surgery is complete. Thank you again and happy healing.

First of all I want to thank you for every word you put on this video. Will do my tibio-tarsic artrodesis in 10 days. My background is just terrible, a simple ankle fracture evolved in osteomielitis and as result surgeries cutted away 12 cm of my tibia putting same quantity of cement to maintain the right distance. Everything should be fixed with a piece of bone from bones bank and a very big nail to screw everything. I just hope to have same determination and same results you got in this year. I badly know every effort and pain to reach those results.

Wow thank you for sharing your story with all of us.😮 I fell from a second floor balcony. My entire foot came off. I now have chronic pain from inflammation, arthritis and cysts. My foot was reattached with an ex fix and I had 3 surgeries😢. I have 2 options now to relieve the bone on bone pain. 1 ankle fusion 2 ankle replacement. I did cortisone shots and physical therapy. They did not help. I am permanetly disabled now plus have a care taker. I have to use a Cane, Walking Rollator or knee scooter. After watching your video I am inspired to do Fusion. 🎉My doctor said my open wound fracture was so serious I am probably not a good candidate for ankle replacement eventhough that would give me the BEST results. I cant run at all, or stand for long periods of time. With this info you shared I am almost certain ankle fusion would help me.❤ Please continue to tell your journey. Im so proud of you for not giving up😇. You are an earth angel that is healing the entire world thru your story . I am 59 and my doctor told me I was too young for ankle replacement, as a replacement only lasts about 15 years, and you can’t do a second ankle replacement. After the ankle replacement fails, they would try and do a fusion, but it is much more difficult to do a fusion if you have already had ankle replacement. I am getting to the point where the pain is, causing me to move ahead with ankle fusion. Hesitant to go through the long recovery, but inspired by the results I’ve seen on videos people have posted who have gone through it.

Hola.

Hi Mark, good to hear from you! Did your doctor confirmed that your ankle has fused? It seems so, as you are slowly increasing weight bearing. This pain is normal. I also had it. Take it easy and go slowly in this stage, also alternate easy walks and leg elevation for at least 20 minutes, several times per day. Compression socks can also help in this process. Are you having physiotherapy sessions? These professionals can make massages to relieve the pain and prescribe you drills and exercises to overcome this. Anyway, I believe this is part of the process to get used to have weight on the foot again. If you notice something more severe, contact your doctor. I wish you all the best in your recovery journey!

Valeu! Muito obrigado pelo comentário. Abraço.

Do you happen to know the specific fusion you had done? I am looking at possible having a triple athrodesis this year and I am apprehensive about the loss of mobility and how it would affect my knee/hip on that side.
@PricoTu
@PricoTu Ай бұрын
Hi, as mentioned in the video I had a Tibiotalar. The triple fusion involves one more bone, so an additional complexity. I think of fusion to solve pain from the joint, it can decrease mobility slightly, but if you dedicate yourself, with physiotherapy and exercise you can recover some of it and live very well, respecting your body’s limits, most importantly without pain.

Hey, I was born with a club foot and the pain from some of the ankle bones being formed badly is now unbearable at 29 and the docs say fusion is the best option. Unlike an ankle replacement after a period of time does fusion “wear out” or cause more pain in any way longer term?
@PricoTu
@PricoTu 2 ай бұрын
Hi Matt, my doctor mentioned that replacement actually wear out according to the equipment lifespan, while fusion doesn’t, but in the long term it could increase the risk of arthritis on other joints of the foot, so I must be attentive to that and keep myself healthy and active to prevent that.

Hi Mark. It’s normal, try to relax and enjoy these days with your loved ones before the surgery, some meditation and visualization techniques can help. My calf increased 4 cm since the surgery, and now it’s slightly bigger than before the procedure, but It’s still smaller than the other one. Honestly it’s quite hard to engage the calf with fused ankle. I found the best option for me is to use a standing calf raise machine in the gym, in unilateral way. So I can focus in the single leg and put adequate weight, it’s taking a lot of time and effort but it is getting better. I wish you a successful surgery, I will be cheering for you!

Hi Don. Thank you! This initial stage is the hardest, not just physically but also mentally and emotionally. I also experienced ups and downs. It is great that you have good support from your wife, remember to be patient with her. For now focus on your recovery, be patient and stay comfortable. Be aware that changes will happen, good ones and not so good ones, and you will be able to face them when the moment comes and you will be able to adapt yourself to the new situation. I wish you all the best in your journey!
