Impressive that he produced at the rate he did without much powerplay usage until later in the season. His projected comps from Byron Bader’s Hockey Prospecting model are pretty insane; first name that pops up is Bobby Orr.

I stillam tired of the narrative that the Devils only took Nemec because they already had Hughes/Hischier; and that Arizona only took Cooley because they didn't think Wright would be available. At this point, i think in a redraft, Cooley would be #1 and Nemec would be a close #2. Both of these teams did their homework and walked away with the guys they thought were the best available.

From everything we've heard, Tom Fitzgerald has every intention of having Nemec playing top minutes in the AHL this season. He'll no doubt play in the international tournaments as well. They're taking their time with Nemec.

He’ll likely get some games through the year but with Dougie, Marino, Miller all ahead of him he won’t be a regular unless he looks great. I think by the end of the year he’ll be ready to make an impact like with Luke last year. I think Nemec’s production last year gets underrated because people just compare it to Jiricek’s and Jiricek had the better raw production. That was entirely driven by the PP. Nemec had the much better 5v5 production and didn’t get to play PP1 last year. Defensively I think Nemec is quite overrated. Sure the tools are there with the feet, the stick, and the brain but it’s still quite bad. He is SUPER passive and it leads to way more zone entries against and extended zone time than it should. He’s definitely not a two way D as is. You don’t run 2D on PP1. Especially not with the forward talent that’ll be on that team. When Nemec arrives you go 1 PP1D and 2 on PP2. Likely Dougie on PP1 in the more short term (although I wouldn’t be shocked if Luke takes that relatively soon) and Nemec with whichever of Luke/Dougie isn’t PP1

Honestly there's nothing wrong with running 2 D on the power play. As long as they're offensive enough. Everyone has adopted the 1 D on a powerplay

Hopefully Nemec turns out to be a great player. Logan Cooley is looking to be another Jack Hughes type generational player. When picking Nemec, hopefully, they picked the best player available and not picked based on need or a surplus. If Cooley was higher on their board, they could have picked him and just traded him away.

develop team defense back in own zone, transition offense puck movement in AHL?
@ChrisLamia
@ChrisLamia 8 ай бұрын
The transition offense is the best part of his game. In zone it’s good but I find he lacks a lot of creativity and deception with the puck that you find out of elite offensive Dmen. I think that’ll limit his offensive ceiling. Defensively yeah both the in zone and transition D needs a ton of work. He’s way too passive in both regards.
