One Year of Godot Gamedev!

I've been using Godot for one year now and I'm super happy with everything I got done! It wasn't always a smooth process though so I'm hoping this video inspires others to push past the low points to make their dreams come true :)
If you're interested in making games, definitely do some game jams!
- Godot Wild Jam (my favorite, happens every month)
- Ludum Dare
- Github Game Off
- Greenlight Jam

Excellent video! I hope you're able to pursue your game making dreams more and can't wait to see what you have in store! (Can't believe we really drove in -20 degree weather just to make a mafia game about a man named Dit Lini)

Nice video! I've edited as a hobby for a while and I would suggest more snazziness like, for example instead of showing a picture of the text, "Ludum Dare", you could scroll through the page and add that as a piece of animated content while explaining your point, and generally I don't like to linger on a single frame for a long time while talking about a topic, for example at 1:55 I think it would benefit to cut to a sequence showing the discord or some messages. Other than that great video! 👍(I'll definitely be using that Game Jam Idea Generator eventually too ;D )

Last year was the first time I joined a jam with friends, it was ... Uhh... Chaotic But over all really fun, Godot seems to be really good for gamejams (we used unreal) Whether you could play the game in browser or not made a huge difference which entries I ended up checking out. Good luck with 2024!

Browser games get way more plays for sure, it's just so much easier for people to get to playing

Awesome. Im trying to learn to make games but its hard so I mostly just 3d model stuff and leave them sitting around in a scene

I did that at first too, eventually I had enough models to motivate me to push through the code. Once you see them moving it's such a great feeling

start tiny. Make them move with player input, or just with sin(). Once you have stuff moving it will feel more alive and you'll feel motivated and proud of your little digital creatures :)

Wow nice recap, how did you do the peer to peer? Did you just use gdscript for it or a addon?

Just gdscript, I have another video on my channel showing a basic peer to peer project and a GitHub repo with the code for it

ty for sharing this, I've tried the built-in multiplayer nodes and some RPC stuff but I haven't been able to get anything not on localhost to work at all. @@travh98_
