im glad this is here, paused to write a similar comment. was gonna say make sure estop is pressed as well, the cord/plug can be out of sight, you never know if some idiot is around the corner plugging it back in / turning the switch back on estop is right in front of you, you will see if someone is mucking with it

As a manufacturer of shredders, I can say a nice job done. About the coupling. You can use 2 the same chain sprocket gears connected with duplex chain. Using taperlock system, you can find the right size very easy and its dirt cheap. The number of tooths on the gears need to be divisible by 2. For the spur gears. Knowing the bearing center distance to each other it is simple to make a table what gear combination for each gear modul can be used. That way there are many more possibilities and biger chance to find some online. . As the file is nearly 700mb, I don´t have time to download and go through, but if somebody want, i can write all the possible gear combination here, just let me know the distance between shafts ( center to center )

this is a very good design. much improved from old versions. i personally like the idea of using a cycloidal reducer, or planetary reducer, instead of helical bevel (which i assume is what you are using) because they are more suited to run in reverse, and in the cycloidal case, they are very tolerant to shock loading.

Very cool! One of my long term projects is an engine that runs on a variety of recycled plastics. A machine like yours would allow me to compact the fuel greatly and reduce the "fill up" of the reaction chamber and the associated downtime. Great video btw

Oh man !! Great stuff. I would be interested in what you are up to. I am converting a pellet stove to run on HDPE and PP.. I need a good shredder to feed my hot extrusion feed with nice consistent chips of plastic. What are you pyrolizing the plastic directly into a modified internal combustion engine ? Plastic is great isn't it 👍

Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I think the shredder is quite a complicated machine to build. Better to leave it to professional machine makers. I was surprised by the low RPM which is needed. (before, or was the for the V3 machine), I heard 70 RPM, now only 25-30. I have to study the technical specifications. When I downloaded the starters' kit yesterday, I was looking for the financial side of it. I found the files but the files seemed to be (only) estimations. I could not find the company which was mentioned in it. Does it really exist? They had an estimation for about 5000€ for the machine, Is there a parts' list available with prices how much which part costs?

I LOVE the precious plastic project. Thanks for your contribution for a more sustainable world and all the work you are putting in. Just some food for thought, don't you guys think that by creating these videos in which you are showing kind of "complex" manufacturing techniques and expensive tooling, in a way you are kind of reducing your real target audience to just a few? Think that not many people knows how to use a lathe or even have one. Is there a way you guys think that we could redesign the machine a bit so it can be a more diy project? Then perhaps more people can actually build one. Cheers!

This. I would love to get into plastic shredding, yet I have the difficult choice of buying an overpriced low end shredder online or going back to school for a two year degree in order to even have a chance at building this right.
@hansdegroot8549
@hansdegroot8549 4 жыл бұрын
@@sanaru02 I think the double shaft is the most difficult and crucial part of the whole machine. I was surprised by the fact that the measurements of the shredded plastic is determined by the type of sieve you mount under it. Already some years ago (I know the precious plastic KZfaq channel and web-site only for 7 months) I saw all kind of (home-made?) double axis shredders for plastic (which were not open source) but I have no idea what they cost and what their capacity is.
@sampyter
@sampyter 4 жыл бұрын
To add on this, I think if you're gonna buy a shredder, but then you are not thinking of melting all those pieces back together, then you might be even polluting more even if all that plastic takes a considerable less ammount of space. Why? Well, if they ever spill, small pieces of plastics are far harder to pick up and have a worse environmental impact.
@sampyter
@sampyter 4 жыл бұрын
Again, I love the precious plastic project, but I don't think it will have a huge impact (considering how much plastic is thrown away every day) unless it finds out the recipe for scaling up. Why not building a proper recycling plant with a big twist in branding and social awareness? Have you mapped the space recycling plants are taking in the market currently? To give you an example, here where I live, there are tens of brands that sell water in bottles right? But there is one that said that for each bottle you buy, x percentage goes to provide water in third world country areas. And just like that, because people now want things to be meaningful, this water bottle brand is growing like crazy. Anyway, just an idea vomiting. I hope you don't mind. Cheers!

I have bought all the parts in the BOM and am building the machine as we speak. Im stuck at the beginning as the frame 2d drawing is incomplete. Like the 80x40 where you´re drilling the cable management hole. Where does it sit exactly? what is the length of these 2 90 degree rotated 80x40? I dont want to mess up the build right from the start so i really need some advice. Im afraid its a long shot getting some info here :( Also the flatbars where you cut 2 holes into each is nowhere in the starter kit

I really love what you are doing and I was super excited to be involved and start a plastic recycling centre where I am, hoping that I could build these machines in my workshop inexpensively. I have a thousand ideas for things to build with recycled plastic. Problem is, they are great machines and to build them properly costs thousands! It's all totally prohibitive unless you have a spare £20k kicking around, which I don't. I started to collect the parts to build a plastic extruder and realised that the motors are hard to find and really expensive and the original plan of using a cheap auger bit instead of an expensive extrusion screw just doesn't really work. Such a pity, but good on everyone who can afford to jump in and build these machines! Great project. If you could find a way of using readily available, affordable, recycled components to build these machines, then you would be on to a revolution! In the meantime, it's actually just easier to go on ebay and buy commercial equipment - it's cheaper and a whole lot simpler!
