Damn it, Dave. With a place like this, you damn well know you need to order it how you like it if it’s that good. It’s too good of an opportunity with being such a rare spot. You might as well have said “make it how you usually do” and they added pepperoni. You need to rate it on their potential and give them a second chance if it’s in the realm of a top 10 spot

Parm and garlic. You can't beat that. Takes a regular pie and kicks it up a notch. Needed a another minute or two in the oven. Looks great.

I can settle this for sure..New Haven has great pizza but really just one style and maybe a half dozen killer spots..Brooklyn on the other hand has so many great pizza spots, from Sicilian squares (L&B, Ginos, Davinci, etc) To Slices Luigis,Difara, Roberta's, etc, To pies, Tottono, Patsys,Lucali, Grimaldi, etc..

Giuseppina’s is owned by the brother of the owner of Lucali’s. People say it’s basically the exact same pizza - but looks like they don’t put the basil on top of theirs.

The man is biased on his score scale. It’s not fair for him to tell the store to “do it how you usually do” and then forbid to go higher because “it’s not his style.” There’s even some situations where he can’t score an 8 because it’s not his style like wtf

@@letsgomets002 actually, if you look at the menu, it's a "cheese pizza" which is what dave orders every time. he doesn't know the difference between parm and pecorino and pecorino is the much stronger cheese which is what he's tasting.

As far as I know, Mark from Lucali and the owner of Giuseppina's are related. When Giuseppina's first opened it was a clone of Lucali's pizza (without the loooooong waits) but it's changed a bit so that it is no longer identical.

I had a New York slice before, I wasn't impressed. It wasn't bad but wasn't anything special. Of course, they say Peter Luger and Katz are amazing too and neither were great.

Not everyone likes soggy floppy droopy undercooked pizza crusts and dough. You shouldnt have to fold the tip of the pizza in because its drooping all over the place. I mean if that's your thing go for it but dont shit on other people who like well done crust that holds and supports the toppings.

The issue is, people enjoy pizza different than other people. All im saying is, shut the hell up and let people enjoy their pizza the way they want. The guy who owns this place is Marc Iaccanos Brother. So Lucali and this spot are brothers. Majority of people who have them say it’s the same pizza. Same prices, preparation and ingredients.

No one that has both thinks they are similar. Giussepina's is fantastic but it is certainly not in the same tier as Lucali. Lucali is just special, the sauce is noticeably different, the oven has such a different effect in Lucali, and the basil is markedly better at Lucali. I think they source the same cheese though which is the expensive parts of both pizzas according to Mark

That is my old neighborhood. I lived on 6th. Ave between 19th. & 20th. Street. Guisepinnas use to be the neighborhood pool room and right down the block is Luigi’s pizza on 5th. Ave.

He was asked if he wanted the parm-heavy form, said yes, then docked them because Dave doesn't like parmagian too much? Frankly, if he'd taken the regular style, and kept it in the oven 1 or two minutes longer, it's a "historic" 9.2. Totally botched review. You could see it's top-tier pizza. I understand the policy of rating whatever they give him, how it's given, but Dave asked for the wrong pizza. For elite pizzerias Dave to be fair Dave should apply his custom of reviewing their standard as well as specialty style. We'd have had a 9+ pizza for sure. Since Dave made the error of asking for the "parm" slice, he should fix it and go back. If this place really makes a 9+ pizza, they deserve recognition, and we fans deserve to know about it. Dave, redeem you error!

@@joshtuk No it doesn't. Doused means filled with or covered with something. It refers to quantity. As in there's a lot of parmesan. Says nothing about how strong the parmesan is. There are thousands of different parmesans out there some much stronger than others.

@@poika22 no, there are not “thousands of different parmesans.” The type of “Parmesan” used in NY pizzerias is reggiano, pecorino, or grana padano. Have you ever even eaten at these places? Both Lucali and Di Fara have a STRONG Parmesan flavor because they’re literally COVERED in it, much more so than 99% of pizzas. Dave is just a fucking idiot who doesn’t know anything about pizza. He is famous cause he is entertaining, not because he is knowledgeable.

@@joshtuk I never said Dave isn't an idiot. Just because something is called reggiano, pecorino, or grana padano doesn't mean it tastes the same. Different manufacturers make cheeses of different strenghts. There are thousands of these manufacturers and thus varieties. That doesn't mean they're all distinct or whatever, but if someone uses an especially strong tasting one it makes a big difference.

Parmesan and garlic should always viewed as extras when it comes to pizza. If I had ordered this without knowing, I would have been so disappointed to the point of returning it. Totally with Dave on this one..
