Man for a overnighter or for SURE a day trip . The Fancy feast stove at 24 Grams, and with 28 grams of alcohol you can EASILY heat water for a cup !!! EASY !! Make one or $20 U.S if you buy it . Watch Shug Emory's videos , he has been using one for YEARS !! And YES , you can use it for Multi day trips , just take enough fuel . Zelph's Stoves makes / sells them .

I know what you mean. I have an MKettle with probably a smaller combustion chamber. There is a knack to using it. Generally, when the wood starts taking hold, you need to add more. Don't wait until the flames start to die because it gets too cool to get the new wood to burn easily. If I don't want to mess with twigs, I use a Trangia alcohol burner. A larger fire is certainly easier to control, just need perseverance to get better with the small fires. 👍

I've been following you for about 2 years I think and I totally agree about the bush box that's why I went with the firebox Gen 2 and love it with no regrets.

Twigs stoves are fantastic, Been using them for years. Feed the stove through the front. I now use a gasification twig stove which burns a lot longer. If you get the chance get the Solo Stove or one of the Chinese knock-offs. Thanks for the reviews. Cheers from Australia 👍

iv'e been put off using one of them for the same reason. i bought the lixada stove that you put the pieces together. always a job keeping a constant flame though. easier to light a fire, or take a pocket rocket i think. The bigger ones are better so i'm told, but you need to spend big on the titanium ones or they're just to heavy.

Does look like hard work for a stove. I use a jetboil but most of my cooking outdoors is about speed, on expedition we'll typically only stop 10 minutes or so or if I'm training I spend most of my time trying to teach noobs why you can't boil baked beans out of the packet!
@gordonmurdoch38114 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%, it's ideal for using with a Trangia but with wood it's too much of a faff. In comparison, my small Ikea hobo stove fully equipped with pot stand and pegs comes in at under 250g, it works with the Trangia and is much easier to use as a wood burner. Price wise there is no comparison. All the best
@charlietango16354 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul my friend, I am one of your early subscribers, this is a spin off from the Nano stove, which the man that sells it was in business with the man from Nano, but they went their own ways, anyway the point is the Nano is better I think because it is all hinged together and opens up on its own more or less, you can feed wood in at the top, but I only use it with a Trangia stove, ideal if you go stealth camping, that is my opinion of this little stove, the bigger stove that Nano do is just ideal for your needs.

i bought a cheaper version off Amz, looks to be same size and did a trial run in my garden with shop bought kindling and birch logs kindled up. ok it boiled a pot of water, but took 20 mins and too much fuel to make it worth it... So i have to agree with you that its not worth buying the small bush box.... i ended up buying a wood gas stove instead.
@Oldsparkey4 жыл бұрын
I have a stove about the same size , the Firebox titanium Nano gen 2. I do not have to put the pieces together to assemble the stove , just open it and flip down the fire pan. Or leave the pan up if I want a good hours worth of wood in it at one time Swedish Fire torch style. If I don't want the wood in it that way I can feed long sticks in the two sides of it to have a continues flame. Or I can do it the same way as the Bush Box , drop it in from the top. I can also use a Trangia alcohol burner or one of the Trangia gas burner's or even the little fuel tablets.

I got a small Lixada fraction of the price. It's best to use these small ones with a alcohol stove which you can make or buy to fit inside. Then you can still use it with sticks for boiling some water for a brew. I like it as a backup as it's tiny and packs down well and works well with a alcohol stove made out of a beer can. If you want the fire to last longer (as already mentioned) you can cut a round off a much bigger branch to fit inside and then split it vertically so its Swedish fire stove style - best light from the top then too. Also best way with the gasification stoves.

Yes mate, that was my problem with it. I started with the small one, back in the days when *I* was motorcycle camping (when I *still* had a bike). I'd seen some guy hanging his hammock off the luggage rack of his bike, with a tarp strung across everything and a little (gasifier, if IRC) stove going underneath it, and I thought "Yes, That's me". Still use the hammock (DD Travel) and tarp ( *also* DD. I just upgraded to the Ultralight one. It's *fantastic*). But the stove and the bike have gone, now. I don't miss the stove, but *god* , I miss that bike.

I agree with you. I bought one seven or eight years ago, and it *is* very difficult to get enough heat mass going to keep it lit. I ended up using it with my Trangia all the time. I too, ended up getting the XL, and even then, I used to carry a couple of handfuls of charcoal briquettes with me so I could sustain it enough long enough to cook on it. Also, it's *too* heavy to be hiking with. Most of my hiking and camping is on Dartmoor, where there is A) Little to no wood, and B) No fires allowed, because most of the moor is peat. Which burns *very* well. C) Private plantations, with a fire ban permanently in place. So, it just doesn't fit the circumstances. These days, I can't be arsed with all that most of the time, and I just carry The MSR Pocket Rocket and a small gas cannister. For a quick coffee stop, it's perfect. A minute to put it together, a couple of minutes of Cape Canaveral sound effects and, boom. Done. I carry the Bushbox XL in my Emergency Car Kit most of the time, particularly in winter. Living in Devon, near Dartmoor, snow can often appear very quickly. Add a bag of kindling from the Petrol Station and one of those 3 hr Fire Logs from Asda, broken in two, and there's your quick fire in an emergency. I loved the idea of the Bushbox, but in practice it's a real ball-ache. Shame really.

I saw dozens of videos here showing the bushbox. They all do the same mistake which often leads to damaging this tool: they overload it. There is no need to heat the metal construction. The purpose of the stove is to heat a pot or a pan. As long as the wood is higher than the upper edge you can not heat anything except the surrounding of the stove. Many users are too lazy to break the wood into small pieces to fill the box up to the lower edge of the front opening and instead wait until their huge pieces have burnt down.
