A tedder (also called hay tedder) is a machine used in haymaking. It is used after cutting and before windrowing, and uses moving forks to aerate or "wuffle" the hay and thus speed up the process of hay-making. The use of a tedder allows the hay to dry ("cure") better, which results in improved aroma and color.

Messick has been great to me. I’m down in Texas and run mostly older case tractors. Messick always has the parts or the time to help over the phone to help trouble shoot.

Well said Wes, equipment wears and breaks, and comes and goes, however a good dealer is very very important within 30 miles. So, tis good to partner with your local dealer. Young men who go into debt over their heads and have no money to handle normal breakdowns and parts think the dealer should cover their insufficient cash flow. I have a great 40 year relationship with my local Caterpillar equipment dealer. I don't remember the particular breakdowns or costs, but do remember I wasn't left with downtime when I had to get the street reopened within 24 hours with a city sewer line extension job.

I really like the looks of that tedder. We use a 6 basket, 3 point mounted Krone that I personally don't care for. The cart on the front seems like a great idea for transport and keeping the weight off the baskets itself. It seems really heavy duty as well. We all know overkill is underrated.

They made a good choice letting you use this. This ain't your first rodeo you know how stuff works and when it don't work you usually know why. With the amount of acres your farm you can give a piece of equipment ten years of use in one season. Plus I like your bluntness

i know this video is over a year old but i just wondering if i could get your input on a tedder question. we are looking at 4 basket tedder's and i was wondering what you thoughts were on having a double U joint drive system vs the digi drive system? In doing some research i have found a lot of opinions and was just curious what your take is being that you make a LOT of hay and im guessing have experience with both.

The way the rain has been this year, if you don't have a tedder you won't make much hay. A lot of the Amish around here are WAY behind because of the rain and using horses.

ni there wesley I was wondering if you could help. I have a MF135 with a Perkins 3 cylinder gas engine. I have a heat problem. I seem to be getting excessive exhaust heat, to the point that the hood is uncomfortable to the touch. My coolant temp does not appear to be over the top, but it gets hot enough that you can smell the heat ( if you know what I mean) any thoughts. I swapped out the muffler last year for a ceramic one, but the ceramics burnt right off. love your vids i know your a jd man but you of all people might know many thx

Alex Buss something tells me, Wes truly doesn't have the farm yet. Grandma, his dad and other kin are still alive. Odds are he rents the ground from them which gives the family money to live on. So just because you manage the day to day operation doesn't mean it's in your possetion.
@fk4515
@fk4515 7 жыл бұрын
And I know here in Iowa a lot of the land is held in family trusts, the family member who is operating the farm rents the ground from the trust. It gives them some more control over passing the land from generation to generation. So the "farmer" may farm 1,000 acres of "family" ground but may actually own only a 40 where their shop and grain storage is, and maybe their house.
@ryanstuckey8677

that is how it is sometimes used to be that way almost every time. nowadays it seems people have no respect even for there family. took a good friend of mine and his brother and sister almost everything they had to keep there dad from selling there grandparents farm as soon as they got sick.

@ih1206
@ih1206 7 жыл бұрын
dphillips705 I don't know that that's really the answer, it's part of it for sure. A lot of equipment in North America seems like it bigger and heavier than a lot of tractors are capable of putting on the 3 point hitch. Part of that is that we have wider roads and more open area to maneuver from farm to farm. Part of it, I think, is tradition. Equipment has been pulled by the drawbar since tractors took over for horses as the horse drawn equipment was adopted to be pulled by tractors.

Farmer Cole I looked and I think he might be sick! I am also thinking he has a rather odd obsession with me and my working class baler and the little bit of dirt and dust it collects. If I had the time he has to clean his Junk Holland Baler that would mean I am not working. I laugh every time I here him talk about all the time he has to clean his shit. Funny thing is he won't even say how many bales is on his 10 year old baler. When I am don't this season I will have somewhere around 24K bales that's 2 seasons.
