1. If you gave a good ready position with the hand laid back then you just have to make a body turn and your watch is up 2. If not then raise your elbow in the body turn and your watch uis up 3. We use to say “ mirror yourself in your strings “ when you finished your body turn 4. Or like Oscar wegner said , track it with the racket meaning tip of racket to the front ( not to the sky ) and the watch is up

Could you explain what happens in between the 2 pronations? Best players appear to supinate, watch facing the ground, towards impact. Why does this help them hit massive forehands?

In a recent video you emphasized EXTERNAL shoulder rotation in the prep/take back. How do you reconcile external shoulder rotation with pronation at the same time in the take back ?
@oneminutetennis

Thanks for the message. I think I may not have been clear enough. Because the two movements go hand in hand. It is not so difficult to externally rotate your shoulder and pronate (which is a kind of internal movement) Does that make sense? It's great that your enjoying the site. www.oneminutetennis.com

@@oneminutetennisI would like to see a video about that Steve ! ESR together with pronation. For me the ESR starts right after the bodyturn followed with supination to drop the racket in that lag position 🤔but I could be wrong I’m not a biomechanics specialist

Try and do esr while keeping the forearn relaxed in a pronated position until it flips around and supinates. Feels weird at first.

external rotation of the shoulder=supination of the wrist, you are right. you can pull back the shoulder while pronation of the wrist but that is not external rotation of the shoulder.

At what exact point does Supinatation occur in the Forehand or does it?
@oceanbronze8399
@oceanbronze8399 Ай бұрын
I think as you take your raquet back like the way Coach is, your wrist start to supinate. it’s fully supinated during the lag once you swing forward. Then you pronate again in the follow thru. Federer keeps it pronated as he brings his raquet back and down, supinating only during the lag. I’m not a coach, but that’s how I visualize it.

Yes. Great description. If the supination has to be consciously initiated. Think about opening from your elbow, not your wrist. It creates a better movementGlad your enjoying the channel. Do you have any other tennis issues that I could help with? If so let me know www.oneminutetennis.com

@@oneminutetennis Thank you for that elbow tip. My biggest issue is inconsistency with timing. You have provided already many useful tips. I think it just comes down to more practice and how good my hand eye coordination can develop. Thank you so much for all you do! 🙏🏻

For once I have to disagree with you. The real story here is shoulder rotation; internal - external (aka 'the flip') - then external to internal over the ball, not pronation of the forearm. Check out Brian Gordon's Type 3 Forehand stuff.
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis Ай бұрын
Hi Jeff, I've looked at Brian Gordon's opinion in the past. I really think it's about personal style and personal physique. The female players definitely benefit from the emphasis on the shoulder. In theory, the male players should be the same. But in practice, many players find it easier to feel the hand. Remember, pronation of the hand, does not mean the stroke is played from the hand. Does that make sense? Glad your enjoying the channel. Do you have any other tennis issues that I could help with? If so let me know www.oneminutetennis.com

They go literally hand in hand... The forearm pronation is more prevelant in men due to the shorter take back.

Hmm. Your right if you are talking about Federer. But do you really think that Novak doesn't have esr and a longer swing?

@@oneminutetennis I was going to leave it alone, but as my post is generating dialogue; I'm not a qualified coach but it's taken me 30 years to learn a technically proficient forehand so I've studied pretty much every available information source. The best forehands Fed, Rafa, Delpo, Verdasco (personal favourite), and now Alcaraz use a straight arm forehand, with shoulder rotation. There is also forearm pronation in there through contact, but I don't see this as a primary source of power. This corresponds to Brian Gordon's Type 3 (straight arm) forehand. Obvious when you look at the position of the bicep on take back, then just before after contact. Nole and Sinner use a bent arm, but same thing can be seen. So for me, shoulder rotation is essential to power and spin on the ATP forehand, then add forearm pronation as well for more close control. As for length of swing, the extent of take back before the acceleration point is personal style; they all execute 'the flip' however, with the racquet pointing behind left as the hand accelerates (for RH players) - that's the real length of ATP forehand swing. All totally different from the WTA forehand, which is not really relevant in this conversation.
